BioWare’s classic RPG Neverwinter Nights was given the “Enhanced Edition" treatment by Beamdog a couple of years ago, just as they’ve done with other classic BioWare engine games like Baldur’s Gate, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale. Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition featured a bunch of fixes and improvements over the original 2002 release, including brand new official multiplayer servers, and it launched on Steam in the spring of 2018 with a version for Android following later that year. Then last December versions of Neverwinter Nights: EE were released for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Now the gaming platform circle is complete as the game has also just arrived on the iOS App Store. This is the trailer for the Android release from a couple of years back, but it should get the job done if you’re wondering what you’re in store for.
The base game on iOS is $9.99 and features the full original campaign as well as six(!) free DLC packs: Shadows of Undrentide, Hordes of the Underdark, Kingmaker, ShadowGuard, Witch’s Wake, and Adventure Pack. Altogether this offers well over 100 hours of old-school RPG goodness, but if that is somehow not enough to satiate you, there’s a bunch of paid premium DLC to consider too. This includes Tyrants of the Moonsea, Darkness over Daggerford, Infinite Dungeons, Pirates of the Sword Coast, and Wyvern Crown of Cormyr.
Perhaps most impressive of all is that this new iOS version of Neverwinter Nights features cross-platform multiplayer with the other versions. Well, not ALL the other versions. Sorry Playstation 4 folks. But if you’re on Android, Windows, macOS, Linux, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch you can now dungeon dive with your iOS brethren. Beamdog says they’ve retooled all the UI and controls for the touchscreen, and while they suggest the experience is best on iPad, this is a Universal release with iPhone support, just be aware you might be dealing with some pretty tiny text in that situation.
If you’ve enjoyed any of Beamdog’s previous Enhanced Edition re-releases, then I gather you’ll want to check out this new iOS version of Neverwinter Nights, and you can find more discussion about the game over in our forums.
