This Friday marks the release of a new science fiction movie in theaters. Star… something? Star Wars maybe? Well whatever it is, it seems to be kind of a big deal in certain circles, and so expect to hear a lot more about this “Star Wars" thing in the coming weeks from everything from fast food promotions to car commercials to, yes, even mobile games. Since Disney is the owner of Star Wars, it makes sense for the Star Wars to invade the Disney Magic Kingdoms (Free) game from Gameloft, which is precisely what’s happening this week.
Starting today you can add C3PO and R2-D2 to your park to populate a new Star Wars themed area featuring attractions, concessions, and decorations inspired by famous locations from the films like Hoth, Endor, Jakku and more. New attractions include an X-wing Simulator and Resistance Speeder, and you can open shops to sell items like Lightsaber Stands and a Blue Milk Stand.
In addition to what’s available already, there will be a new Star Wars special event kicking off tomorrow and running through January 14th where you’ll be able to add seven additional characters to your parks. The characters are none other than Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8, General Hux, a First Order Stormtrooper, and Kylo Ren. During this special event you’ll complete quests to “help the Resistance to fight Kylo Ren and the First Order." A noble task if ever there was one. So if you’re a regular visitor of the Disney Magic Kingdoms or you just like the idea of building out your own Star Wars theme park, check out today’s update and upcoming special event inside the game.
