Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. There is a new Spider-Man movie coming out soon. Well, if you live in China or Japan, it’s already out. Friends, it was really good. Please enjoy. This is relevant because there are a ton of Spider-Man: Far From Home updates in this week’s feature. So many, in fact, that I am awarding the coveted UMMSotW award to this very article. Wow, congratulations to me! Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Flappy Fighter, Free Hey, Splashy is back. Yes, it’s a new update for Flappy Fighter, and that means a new fight. This time around, we’ve got Splashy versus Birdette. You play as the Ken-inspired Splashy and battle against the latest character added to the game. As usual, you’ll have to unlock all of the modes again, but any costume colors you’ve unlocked before should carry over. It’s an interesting match-up, and I’m doing my best to write this paragraph without voicing my usual complaints. Yep, time to move on.
Jetpack Joyride, Free Wow, is it pirate event time again? Is it a summer thing? I don’t remember when the silly “talk like a pirate" day is, either. Oh well. Jetpack Joyride is running a new pirate event where you have to collect Golden Skulls to unlock various rewards. A new costume, jetpack, and vehicle skin are available in this update. Swashbuckling S.A.M., Greek God, and the Kraken are apparently the themes in question for those items. As always, this is a limited event, so if you want that stuff, get on it.
Subway Surfers, Free Florida Man illegally surfs on subway tracks in Miami, putting multiple people in danger as he tries to abscond with every pink flamingo to exchange them for, he claims, a special Eagle surfboard. Seen with Florida Man is Florida Kid named Nick, who is quite suntanned and prides himself on kicking off trends. Apparently, there is also a 4th of July board that may or may not have anything to do with Florida Man.
Brawl Stars, Free It’s time for one of those exciting updates for Brawl Stars, by which I mean an update that adds in a new character. His name is Tick, and he’s available for free in the Trophy Road once you have 4,000 trophies. Like his namesake, Tick is tough as nails. He’s a metal ball who lobs mines and explodes, which as far as I know is not like his namesake at all. I mean, I don’t observe ticks 24/7 so I could have missed something there. This update also adds new Star Powers for each brawler, and a new currency called Star Points that will probably give everyone a lot of headaches in the long run. You also get new skins, new maps, and a mysteriously vague “more", so have fun sorting out what all that is about.
Matchington Mansion, Free This one updates so often it’s practically a gimme if I need to fill a slot, and this week I definitely need to fill a slot. Matchington Mansion gets more than thirty new levels in this update, along with a new room for the Flower Shop and two new events. Sticky Stickers runs until July 9th, and Train Station runs from July 12th to July 15th. Presumably that’s around when the next update will hit, so please look forward to that. There are also bug fixes in this new version, because why wouldn’t you fix a few bugs while you’re at it?
Toy Blast, Free As always, a new version of one of these puzzle games features a new bundle of levels and a weird description to try to give it some context. In this case, you’re getting fifty new levels. The story? Apparently, you’ve got a date with someone named Miss Mouse who is probably a toy mouse of some sort. If that’s not strange enough, you’re apparently taking her out to a fancy restaurant. It’s quite the picture to imagine. I am entertained, which is more than I get from most update notes. Bravo, Toy Blast.
Marvel Contest of Champions, Free Nothing but Spider-Man from here on out, friends! And we’re starting with the most popular Marvel game on mobile, Contest of Champions. Some new quests are on tap named Phantasmagoria and Spider-Man: Class Trip. They’re both Spider-Man related, with the former involving the Spider-Verse and the latter hewing pretty close to Far From Home. Play them both for MAXIMUM SPIDER fun. This update also includes a bunch of balance adjustments, bug fixes, and nebulous improvements. Oh, and the summer login calendar has started, showing a little appreciation for the players by doling out a tiny prize each day if you structure your life around logging in at least once every 24 hours.
MARVEL Strike Force: Squad RPG, Free Ha ha, yes, more Spider-Man! I am drunk on Spider-power! Marvel Strike Force is celebrating the new movie by digging into something not terribly well-connect to it: the Sinister Six. Well, I mean, Mysterio is part of the Sinister Six so it’s not like there’s no connection, but still. Two new playable characters arrive in the form of the Rhino and Shocker. No “the" on that last one, though many people add it in anyway. Mysterio and Vulture will be arriving soon to help round things out. Good luck tackling that Rhino event. Maybe you can get him to run into something dangerous by jumping out the way at the last minute and webbing up his eyes? Or distract him with a statue of himself made from solid gold bullion? Just web-balling ideas here.
MARVEL Puzzle Quest: Hero RPG, Free Even in Puzzle Quest, it’s Spider-Man fever! I have to say, this particular Far From Home update seems a little half-hearted compared to some of the others. Mysterio makes his appearance in the game as you would expect, but aside from that it seems to be mostly cosmetic. A new background, a new loading screen, and a new icon. But there are apparently some Spider-Man events called Battle at the Basilica and All Spider-Man. The last one sounds particularly promising, if you ask me.
MARVEL Battle Lines, Free Hello, least popular Marvel game on the App Store! Due to the magical occasion, even you get to shine for a moment. This new version adds three new cards, and… wait a minute! These don’t have anything to do with Spider-Man: Far From Home! It’s Spider-Man from Homecoming, Vulture from Homecoming, and the homemade Spidey suit from Homecoming! You know, I gave you a chance to make an impression here, Marvel Battle Lines, and I have to say: you blew it, big time. But at least there are some new events, and maybe one of them will be Far From Home related? At least the new cards aren’t from Amazing Spider-Man 2.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
