TouchArcade Game of the Week: ‘Zombicide: Tactics & Shotguns’

TouchArcade Rating:

The idea behind the TouchArcade Game of the Week is that every Friday afternoon we post the one game that came out this week that we think is worth giving a special nod to. Now, before anyone goes over-thinking this, it doesn’t necessarily mean our Game of the Week pick is the highest scoring game in a review, the game with the best graphics, or really any other quantifiable “best" thing. Instead, it’s more just us picking out the single game out of the week’s releases that we think is the most noteworthy, surprising, interesting, or really any other hard to describe quality that makes it worth having if you were just going to pick up one.

These picks might be controversial, and that’s OK. If you disagree with what we’ve chosen, let’s try to use the comments of these articles to have conversations about what game is your game of the week and why.

Without further ado…

Zombicide: Tactics & Shotguns

You may see the name Zombicide and recognize it as the popular cooperative board game series from developer Guillotine Games, and you may see the name Asmodee Digital and recognize them as a prolific publisher of digital adaptations of board games on mobile, and then put two and two together to figure that the newly-released Zombicide: Tactics & Shotguns ($4.99) would be a straight digital port of the board game for iOS devices. But that’s not entirely accurate. This new iOS and Android game is more of a turn-based tactical strategy game spinoff that’s heavily based around the Zombicide board game but isn’t a direct digital translation of it mechanically.

This is either great or terrible depending on what you’re expecting and if you’re already a big fan of the physical board game, but one thing is for sure and that is that Zombicide: Tactics & Shotguns is a really excellent strategy game for your mobile device that any fans of the genre should be checking out. There’s a lengthy base game that’s available for your initial $4.99 purchase, and there are several DLC characters available as additional IAP if you want to expand your game experience. Players in our forums have been really enjoying this one since its arrival earlier this week, so be sure to check that discussion out for additional impressions to to seek out help or answers for any questions you may have.
