The idea behind the TouchArcade Game of the Week is that every Friday afternoon we post the one game that came out this week that we think is worth giving a special nod to. Now, before anyone goes over-thinking this, it doesn’t necessarily mean our Game of the Week pick is the highest scoring game in a review, the game with the best graphics, or really any other quantifiable “best" thing. Instead, it’s more just us picking out the single game out of the week’s releases that we think is the most noteworthy, surprising, interesting, or really any other hard to describe quality that makes it worth having if you were just going to pick up one.
These picks might be controversial, and that’s OK. If you disagree with what we’ve chosen, let’s try to use the comments of these articles to have conversations about what game is your game of the week and why.
Without further ado…
Rush Rally 3
Nearly three years ago, developer Brownmonster released Rush Rally 2 to the App Store. Despite the many racing games available on mobile, there were very few actual rally racing games, and not only did Rush Rally 2 fill that hole but it did so with some of the finest racing gameplay of any game on the App Store. More incredible was that it was largely the work of just one man, and Rush Rally 2 could easily hang with racing games released by huge companies. It was like the epitome of what we love about the App Store. Now Brownmonster has unleashed the sequel Rush Rally 3 ($4.99), and once again this has set the benchmark for rally racing games on mobile.
Everything we loved about Rush Rally 2 is back and improved upon. The graphics are more impressive, there are more vehicles to collect and race, and there’s more tracks than ever before. A robust career mode with multiple difficulties as well as additional game modes including multiplayer round out the package. But what really gets my motor rumbling over Rush Rally 3 is just how much they’ve nailed the feel of the racing. The physics are perfect, and your vehicle handles just as you’d expect on the various terrains in the game. With the multiple difficulties you can tailor it to be as newb-friendly or as hardcore as you like, and it’s just plain fun driving in Rush Rally 3. For those who enjoy racing games and appreciate fully premium, no IAP games from small developers, this is an easy recommendation.
