Around this time each year, Apple reveals the top apps, games, developers, and trends across iOS and macOS. This year’s top iOS choices are both from the same publisher. Annapurna Interactive has published some amazing games across all platforms in recent times and the games featured by Apple for 2018 are two of my favourites from the publisher. Ben Esposito’s Donut County ($4.99) has been in development for a while and it was great to finally play and experience it. Bonus points for the superb iMessage stickers it includes. Watch the trailer for it below:
Read our review of Donut County here. It won best iPhone game from Apple. On the iPad side of things, Jason Roberts’ excellent Gorogoa ($4.99) is Apple’s winner for this year. It released in December 2017 and we loved it. Read our review here. While Donut County has seen a release on iOS, PC, and PS4 platforms, Gorogoa is available on Switch as well. The ‘Best of 2018’ blog post from Apple also highlights the Battle Royale trend and features both PUBG Mobile and Fortnite alongside Clash Royale and Hearthstone for some reason under the same trend. I’m not sure why those two were featured in the trend but this is where we are right now. It is going to be interesting seeing the top downloads across different categories when they are revealed. If you haven’t played Donut County or Gorogoa, fix that soon because they are great.
