Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. I’m just coming off a long holiday, so this week’s article isn’t quite as beefy as usual. Nevertheless, I shook off my holiday haze long enough to find a handful of interesting updates for your approval. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!
Jetpack Joyride, Free This jetpack isn’t out of gas yet. Jetpack Joyride‘s next event has started, this time focusing on pirates. At first I thought this was maybe for Talk Like a Pirate Day, but that’s in September. So maybe a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie? But, no. So what’s the deal? Well, I don’t know, but maybe we don’t need a reason to have pirates. Anyway, new goodies include Monty the Macaw and the Brazen Barnacle pirate ship. You’ll also spy some new backgrounds as you take your joyride.
World of Warships Blitz 3D War, Free If I had written a review of this game, I probably would have used the sub-title Tanks but No Tanks. Everyone would have applauded my wit and I may well have been the fifth-richest king of Canada. But I didn’t, so here we are. This update includes some new fleet features, a 60 FPS mode, some boosted rewards, a power save mode, and some tweaks and balance adjustments. Oh wait, I thought of another good one. Boats on the Water, Fire in the Sky. Gosh, why didn’t I think of these before? Sigh.
Subway Surfers, Free I’m pretty sure Subway Surfers has been to Monaco before, but there’s no law saying you can’t go to Monaco more than once in a mobile game. If there were, I’d have to question the value of such an oddly specific piece of legislation. Er, anyway, the kids are in Monaco. There’s a racing theme to the whole affair, with a special themed subway and a cool route along the harbor. Hunt down wheel tokens and you may earn yourself a special Captain outfit for Philip and a Speeder board for whoever.
Candy Crush Soda Saga, Free Blah blah, King puzzle game updates. Blah blah 15 new levels in a new episode. I miss when King’s update notes were silly-bananas, because now it’s just the same old reminder that King will be adding slightly different level arrangments to these apps until either you die or the sun does. But you know, if it’s your thing, 15 more levels. Maybe some new tricks? But probably not. Just another spoonful of oatmeal. Eat up.
Leap Day, Free Leap Day is coming up on its second anniversary this week, and this update was put together to help celebrate. I guess the developers want to mark the occasion by getting good and dirty, because the two new levels they’ve added both sound messy. At any rate, put on your Sunday finest and prepare to explore the Toxic Sewer and Mud World, the latest playgrounds for you to romp around in. This update also addresses a few lingering bugs, which is another nice way to ring in a birthday. Since I didn’t plan ahead with a present, I’ll instead offer up a coveted UMMSotW award.
TSM Game, Free Either I’ve taken one too many blows to the head or there are wedding bells ringing somewhere. Wait, The Sims Mobile has a new wedding quest where you can earn a honeymoon suite bedroom set? Well, that’s comforting. Wasn’t looking forward to dealing with a concussion this early on a Monday. There are also some new quests for players who have reached level 20 to 25. Also, if your greatest heart’s desire is to own a baroque living room set in this game, I’m happy to inform you that wishes can come true. And have. Go get it if you want it that bad.
Fortnite, Free Season 4 is here! Okay, yes, this just came out on mobile, but this is the magic and wonder of cross-platform stuff like this. So, this new season. There are new locations, some new loot, and all that good stuff. All of this is because of a comet, apparently. If you head on over to the crater it left, you can have some fun in low gravity. This update also includes some UI improvements and stability fixes. Now I’m going to say the game’s name a few times to help get some attention. Fortnite, Fortnite, Fortnite.
Need for Speed No Limits, Free No limits. What pure anarchy. Does it extend to physics, as well? How deep does this all go? What? This is just a racing game, and they’re only using that title because it sounds extreme to the max? Ah, okay. Don’t worry, everyone, the fundamental laws of the universe remain intact in spite of what EA says. Lamborghinis! Two of them are here. There’s the Centenario, and the Veneno. They are both probably really hard to earn. Also, something about Steve Aoki. An Aoki wrap for your car? A new music track? I used a lot of question marks in this entry, and I’d like to assure you that yes, I am that discombobulated at the moment.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
