This morning was one of those days where I just didn’t want to wake up – but then I remembered the excellent Cally’s Caves 4 (Free) was scheduled to release on the App Store. After two and a half years of fervent anticipation from the previous entry in the series, it’s fair to say my expectations for the latest title in the excellent Cally’s Caves franchise have been incredibly high, and it’s good to see that developer Jordan Pearson decided to do things his way (as opposed to the highway), as the end product is an incredibly enjoyable App Store action platforming romp. Despite a horde of gigantic and tenacious enemies, the thugs, bandits and football players determined to get in your way should keep their distance, cause right now Cally is dangerous, and entirely ready to break stuff with a ridiculous arsenal of awesome weapons to experiment with. If you’ve been keeping an eye on our pre-release coverage of the game, you know what time it is – Cally’s Caves 4 is now available to download on the App Store for free, and is yet another essential title for any action fans out there.

My reverence to Fred Durst aside, the brief time I’ve had with Cally’s Caves 4 so far has been extremely positive, and it’s been a blast (despite a number of deaths at the hands of some crafty opponents) to explore the environments and try out quirky new weapons in the game’s many levels. The virtual controls are incredibly responsive for an action platformer focused on fine margins (MFi controller support is also huge for anyone with a compatible device), and the few bosses I’ve encountered this early on have been really impressive and a lot of fun to boot. Cally’s Caves 4 is a fantastic sequel in how it further refines, deepens and improves on an already solid formula, and a generous monetisation model only tops off one of my favorite mobile releases of the year so far. Shaun will swoop in with a far more nuanced review soon, but I’d definitely recommend giving Cally’s Caves 4 a download now, if just to support an awesome indie developer who is super active amongst our mobile community.
