Earlier this week, the folks over at Super Evil Megacorp released the latest update to their mobile MOBA, Vainglory (Free) . In addition to the requisite balance changes to heroes, items, and talents, Version 2.9 sees the release of new skins (including Halloween themed ones), new items, significant changes to vision, and the launch of the newest hero the Churnwalker.
From an items standpoint, Version 2.9 debuts both the Dragon’s Eye and Spellfire. The Dragon’s Eye replaces the old Broken Myth’s passive amplification (which is now gone) while Spellfire allows abilities to deal crystal damage over time. The entire Crystal tree has also been revamped with an emphasis towards focused items.
Version 2.9’s vision changes mean that heroes now have a significantly increased vision radius. In addition, basic attacks will reveal the attacker to the defender (but not vice versa) while ability attacks will reveal both players. The overall goal is to improve the likelihood of invisible damage from not occurring. Meanwhile, new skins for Baron, Baptiste, and Lyra are now in-game.
Finally, Version 2.9 sees the release of Churnwalker, a new hero that focuses on multiple skill shot hooks and chaining victims to him. A Captain that is potentially difficult to use, Churnwalker has the potential to have some of the highest damage and self-healing capabilities in the game. A high skill Captain is always a good addition, so it’ll be interesting to see where Churnwalker ends up in the meta.
Additional information on Version 2.9 can be found in the release notes.
