‘Box Cat Bash’ Arrives August 31st, Check Out the Hilarious New Launch Trailer

TouchArcade Rating:

Indie developer Rusty Moyher’s 2011 arcade game Box Cat ($1.99) is among my very favorite cat games on the App Store, and if memory serves it was the original game that sparked off the (now sadly defunct) Jared’s Kitty Korner segment of our weekly podcast. Should probably bring that segment back sometime, perhaps for some sort of special occasion? Like the release of a BRAND NEW Box Cat game? Yes, it’s true, Moyher is back with Box Cat Bash, a direct sequel to the original game that we saw in action during GDC this past March. While originally intended for release at the end of March, the game took a bit longer than anticipated and is now being published by Noodlecake Games who have announced a release date of August 31st alongside this brand new Box Cat Bash trailer where Mr. Moyher does his very best Metal Gear impression.

As you may remember from the original Box Cat, the goal was to run through the intersection and ram into cars with your nearly invincible tiny cat body and send them careening off into other cars, producing huge chain reaction crashes and racking up points. What many people didn’t know is that Box Cat actually had an ending, and the story there leads right into the events in Box Cat Bash. It still doesn’t quite explain why there are cars falling from the ceiling inside of a factory, but I guess the simplest explanation is “why not have cars falling from the ceiling inside of a factory?" The original Box Cat was tons of fun and surprisingly strategic, and I have no doubt that Box Cat Bash will be another dose of fun when it launches next week as a free ad-supported game with an ad-removal IAP.
