Back at the end of May, Obsidian Entertainment announced that a big new content update was in the works for their digital version of popular card game Pathfinder Adventures (Free). Details were vague at that time but we did know the new content would be called Rise of the Goblins and would be loosely based on the We Be Goblins expansion that was released for the physical version of Pathfinder. This week Obsidian has taken the lid off of Rise of the Goblins and have revealed that the new content will come in the form of an entirely new campaign. It will interweave with the existing Rise of the Runelords campaign but will be played from the perspective of the Goblins. They’re introducing two new Goblin characters to star in this new campaign, Ranzak (from Skull & Shackles) and Poog (from Goblin Burn! Deck).
In addition, and since the Rise of the Goblins campaign can only be played with Goblins and because players will likely want more than Ranzak and Poog in their party, they’ve created Goblin-ified versions of the existing Iconic Pathfinder characters, as you can see below. And as a cool bonus, you’ll be able to use these Goblin characters in the existing Rise of the Runelords campaign as well!
There are more details over on the official Obsidian forums about Rise of the Goblins as well as some other neat stuff like a new set of Goblin dice, some changes to existing cards, and what Obsidian will be up to after this latest expansion is released in terms of even more new content for Pathfinder Adventures. They’ve also heard the many cries of players who felt that Pathfinder Adventures was too tough to get into, and so at that link you can also find two brand new video tutorials that they’ve created to hopefully address the game’s steep learning curve. Look for more details on the upcoming new stuff as they become available, and look for the Rise of the Goblins expansion to arrive sometime next week.
