I remember when the first episode in the Bertram Fiddle ($1.99) series released back in 2014, and was absorbed by the game’s abundant humorous charm and the beautifully drawn cartoon characters that walked the Victorian London streets. While its point-and-click puzzles were not particularly complex, and the game was not the lengthiest on the App Store, Rumpus Animation’s iOS debut left me enamoured and wanting more from the Bristol-based developers.. Sadly, a 2015 release date for the next instalment came and went, and it wasn’t until late last year that the project resurfaced and the second episode, titled A Bleaker Predicklement, became a reality. After much waiting and even more delays, Bertram Fiddle 2 – A Bleaker Predicklement finally has a release date, and will be bringing its classic British humor to the App Store on July 20th, with an Android launch soon after.
It may have taken its time, but early impressions suggest that the second episode of the Bertram Fiddle series will be more than worth the wait. The delay, which the developers have suggested was because of the ambition and scope of the project, means the second title will be far bigger than the first, with more environments to explore and additional puzzles to be solved. While the title suggests a degree of continuity from the first game, Rumpus have suggested that A Bleaker Predicklement will act as a stand-alone game, so anyone who has not played the original will not be missing out (even if there is a fair bit of fan-service to those who experienced A Dreadly Business back in 2014). The preview snippets on our forum thread are impressive, and as a lover of awful puns I’m excited to see if A Bleaker Predicklement is worth the wait when it hopefully launches on the App Store on July 20th.
