Supercell has announced the Crown Championship for Clash Royale (Free), a championship season designed to find a champion for the Spring Season of the game. The championship will take part in 4 phases: the first phase, open play, will run May 11th-16th. Hundreds of 1000-player custom tournaments will open up for rank 8 and up players. The best players from the Open Play tournament will move on to phase two: bracket play. Eight 1024 bracketed tournaments will open up, and the winner of each tournament will move on to the third phase: the Top 8. In this phase, a three-week round robin tournament will take place, with the top 6 moving on to the Spring Finals in a double eliminiation bracket to be the Spring Champion. Which, I guess technically will take place in the summer since it happens June 30th-July 2nd. You can get the details at the official Crown Championship website.
I’m interested to see how this turns out for Supercell and for the Clash Royale competitive scene as a whole – seasonal championships make sense for the game and its constant evolution, and could give high-level players a goal to go for. Plus, with the wide-open field, perhaps some fresh faces could show up in the championships. This should be fun, and the third and fourth phases will be live-streamed, so keep an eye out for those if you want to see some competitive Clash Royale action!
