Franz Kafka is one of my favorite authors because of how crazy, illogical, and surreal his stories are, so I’m quite excited about the upcoming The Franz Kafka Videogame, releasing for PC April 6th and coming to mobile either on that day or (hopefully) soon after. The game blends puzzle and narrative and tries to capture the craziness that is Kafka’s worlds (there’s a reason we have the adjective “Kafkaesque.") As you can see from the trailer below, the art is lovely and there’s even a very Twin Peaks Black Lodge moment.
At the same time, it’s very hard to capture the craziness that is Franz Kafka’s worlds, so I’m curious to see how well this game will do that. You’ll play as K., a man who gets a sudden offer of employment that forces him to make a distant voyage across a very peculiar world. I hope the game manages to capture that Kafkaesque ambiance that is so hard to define and yet such a big part of what makes Kafka’s works so unique.
