Pokemon GO (Free) was supposed to come to the Apple Watch before the end of 2016, as part of the whole idea of being able to play on the go, but it looks like it’s going to be delayed, and the reason for the delay is an intriguing one. According to a report by 9to5Mac, the delay is partly because Niantic is planning on announcing its own wrist wearable that will help players enjoy the company’s geolocation games better. The announcement will be coming next month according to sources, but Niantic is trying to keep it a secret and isn’t confirming or denying reports of the Apple Watch delays.
The Niantic wearable will apparently have much more functionality than the Nintendo Pokemon GO one, but the question is whether people not into Ingress – Niantic’s other big game – will buy it just for Pokemon GO or whether Niantic is looking to the future with this one. The Apple Watch Pokemon GO app should still be coming, so if you were hoping to have Pokemon GO on your phone, do not despair, yet.
