It’s been a year and a bit since we last wrote about Submerged. Finally, the game is set for release tomorrow, and I can’t wait to play it. Submerged was first released in 2015 for PC and current gen consoles, and it tells the story of Miku, a young woman trapped in an ancient, half-submerged city. Lacking any supplies, she has to explore the flooded streets and scale ruined buildings as she tries to save her dying sibling. So, as you can already tell, this isn’t your usual “go in kill everything that moves" kind of narrative. Instead, you’ll be discovering various hidden objects as you try to piece together the story of a broken world and a broken family.
There’s definitely an Uncharted vibe to the game, but there’s no shooting in this one, which is a nice change from your usual gun-happy protagonists. The game was built with Unreal Engine 4 and will be taking advantage of Apple’s Metal, so I expect to see amazing visuals. Add to the visuals and pensive storytelling a soundtrack by BAFTA-Award winner Jeff Van Dyck, and you can see how this will probably be a fantastic experience. The game comes out tomorrow, so get ready to explore the beautiful city of Submerged.
