Keeping with today’s genre-blending theme, there’s yet another upcoming game that’s grabbed my attention, this one called Word Invaders. As you can probably guess from the title, Word Invaders mashes together word games with classic Space Invaders-style gameplay. But wait, how the heck does that work? Well, your job is to make as many words as possible from the selection of letters you’re given, but you’ll have to deal with invaders constantly flying above and shooting away your letters. This is not a slow-paced word game where you have all the time in the world to come up with the “perfect" word, you need to be on your toes in Word Invaders as any of your precious letters can be blasted away in the blink of an eye.

I have to admit I’m not always a fan of games that put this type of pressure on you while playing. I typically like to play at my own pace in both word and puzzle games. However, I also admit that I’m one of those OCD folks who just HAS to make sure I’ve gone through every possible combination of words that I can make with my letters so I can be sure I have the BEST possible option. I totally suck to play Scrabble with, just ask anybody. Anyway, that’s always sort of put me off to playing things like Words With Friends because I could never just make a “good enough" word and leave it at that. Having constant pressure from aliens that are shooting at me might be the motivating factor I need to just get on with the game already. It’s an interesting concept at the very least, so I’ll be looking forward to Word Invaders when it launches next week on August 25th.
