A Bunch Of ‘Dragon Quest’ Games Are On Sale Right Now

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello, friends! Do you like deals? Do you like Dragon Quest? Is your iOS collection of said games inexplicably missing the best installments the series has to offer? If you answered yes to all of those questions, then today, fortune smiles upon thee, for thou hast found some Dragon Quest sales. Perhaps to coincide with the release of Romancing SaGa 2 later today, Square Enix has dropped the price on a few of the better Dragon Quest games. No telling how long these prices will last, so get them quickly if you want them.

The list of games on sale includes:

So which ones should you buy? All of them are good, of course, but if you only get one, I’d recommend Dragon Quest 5. It’s one of my favorite RPGs of all-time, with an excellent story and solid gameplay. If you don’t mind a more story-light adventure, Dragon Quest 3 makes a dandy runner-up. But really, Dragon Quest is like pie. There are no bad ones. Just pick the one you think looks best, and get questing!

I really enjoy these types of games, but much prefer exploring above ground. I really like that first screenshot with the trees and stars. Is that only on the first floor? Looks really good, though!

I really wanted to like the first but the tiny automap and lack of a complete map led me to more frustration than fun. My days of needing graph paper to play a dungeon crawler are thankfully over.
The fact that the mapping is unchanged in this game unfortunately means a no buy for me.

I love the game, but not having the ability to toggle to see the whole map totally ruins it for me. We shouldn't have to plot it on graph paper! Maybe the dev can add this? Please?

Ultimately I agree about the map but if you play the game scrolls of magic mapping are pretty frequent drops which give you a complete picture momentarily of the map. Also I big improvement is on the mini map you can tell if you've gone down a hallway before or not by the shade of a cell. This is really helpful for exploring. I'm enjoying and not having a map is fine.

      Lovely picked it up now!

Is this game underpriced or priced perfectly? Tell me!

Thanks again for an excellent review Shaun! I am still chewing on the first one, but the love shows in this great pick-up-and-play first person dungeon crawler. The simple town mechanics are entertaining as well and seeing as the sequel goes the extra mile I have bought it just to support an awesome premium Indy developer. I know I will be playing this soon! Just enough oldschool Dungeon Master vibes to tide me over until The Quest HD for iPad!

You should play THE QUEST on iPad anyway. Looks beautiful.
