Ratrod Studio has a long history of bringing extreme sports activities to mobile devices. They cover snowboarding with their Snowboard Party series, drift racing with their Drift Mania series, and skateboarding with their Skateboard Party series. Oh, and let’s not forget hockey fighting with their Hockey Fight games, too. Well, it’s been more than 2 years since their last skateboarding outing, but that’s about to change with the release of Skateboard Party 3 ft. Greg Lutzka next Thursday.
The Skateboard Party games are quite comporable to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games of old in that they’re a bit over the top but mostly based in reality and also heavily built around stringing together combos for scoring. Also like the Tony Hawk games, the Skateboard Party games have only gotten more over the top with each new release, which you can see in the trailer for Skateboard Party 3 where at one point video game Greg Lutzka is grinding across the back of a Stegosaurus.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining! I like a little bit of overly fantastical stuff in my skateboarding games sometimes. And with the surprisingly playable iOS port of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 being long removed from the App Store, and Tony Hawk’s various new mobile projects all seemingly in limbo, there aren’t a whole lot of options for those looking for a similar experience on mobile. I’ve enjoyed previous Skateboard Party games, but the controls and skater movement have always felt stiff and a little off to me. Skateboard Party 2 was a big improvement over the first, however, and I’m hoping that the third installment will be even better.
We won’t have long to wait to find out as Skateboard Party 3 ft. Greg Lutzka hits iOS next week for $1.99, and hits Google Play, Amazing, and the Windows Store a week later on June 2nd. In the meantime, check out the forum thread to talk about this one.
