A few months back, there was some speculation after Bandai Namco filed a trademark for a game called Slashy Souls, which many thought sounded like a mobile version of Bandai’s other property, Dark Souls. Apparently, that speculation was spot on since tomorrow, we should be getting Slashy Souls, an endless-runner inspired by Dark Souls yet not actually connected to the best-selling (and soul-wrenching) series. As you can see from the video below, the game is a 16-bit re-imagining of the successful franchise, and while it does go with the endless runner genre, the game should still feel at least distantly-related to the Dark Souls games because of how it will have a variety of weapons, spells, bosses, and a focus on challenge.
Now, I’m guessing many will complain about not getting a “proper" Dark Souls game and, instead, getting a game with a name like Slashy Souls. Personally, I’m glad the developers didn’t try to shoehorn Dark Souls on mobile and decided instead to go with a genre that works well on phones and tablets. As long as Slashy Souls is challenging and as long as it retains the feel of its inspiration, I’m good. The game should come out tomorrow, so keep an eye out if you want to die repeatedly.
