‘Vainglory’, ‘Minecraft’, ‘Horizon Chase’, and More Get Chinese New Year Updates

With Chinese New Year, aka Lunar New Year, arriving on February 8th, bringing with it the Year of the Monkey, iOS games are getting updates and even the occasional sale for the special festival day. This in large part due to the rising prominence of China in the mobile gaming market, and because developers love to tie updates in with holidays. One of the big updates we heard about and is available now is Vainglory (Free), which added the monkey hero Ozo along with special Chinese New Year decorations for the occasion.

Many other games are getting updates, too. Minecraft: Pocket Edition ($6.99) has some new Journey to the West skins. Don’t Starve ($4.99) is on sale for Lunar New Year. Shadowmatic ($3.99) added in 10 new Chinese levels. Horizon Chase [appprice url="asdf"] has some new limited-time Chinese New Year events and the full game unlock is down to $0.99, though there still may be issues with the paid-to-free transition for those who bought the game before. Asphalt 8: Airborne (Free) has new Asian-inspired R&D events along with Chinese New Year decals. Nono Islands (Free) has 14 new levels and a new Monkey King protagonist. Shooty Skies (Free) added in new pilots, enemies, and more for Chinese New Year. Respawnables (Free) has a bunch of new armor and weapons in celebration of the day.

A large number of games are celebrating this important day, so if you’re seeing a whole bunch of updates to download at once, that’s why. Go check out some rad new content in your games, and happy Chinese New Year!
