This has basically nothing to do with iOS gaming, but it’s one of the awesomest things that regularly happens in gaming in general, so it felt worth mentioning just in case anyone is unaware of the event. Long story short, Awesome Games Done Quick is an event that takes place in the winter and the summer where they round up some of the best speed runners in the world to race through all sorts of video games to benefit the Prevent Cancer Foundation. There’s loads of prizes and other stuff for donating, but they also do fun things like letting top donators name the characters in particular speed runs, or request different types of difficult speed runs. All in all, it’s super cool.
The schedule is available here, and things I’d make sure to watch are the Mike Tyson’s Punch Out blindfolded play through where some wizard actually manages to play through the game by sound alone, but really, any of the races are pretty fascinating. Here’s last year’s Super Metroid 4-way race:
Anyway, whether or not you donate anything is up to you, but I highly recommend tuning in on Twitch. It’s more interesting than your typical speed runs, as they’ll often have people explaining the significance of certain paths or strategies that are used to get through these games as quickly as possible.
