From the Forums: “For People With Consoles or Handhelds, Do You Play iOS Less/Value It Less?”

TouchArcade Rating:

We haven’t done a “From the Forums" in a while, and since there’s nothing going on today, it seems like the perfect time. Forum user spader623 asks the question, “For people with consoles or handhelds, do you play iOS less/value it less?" which started a pretty interesting discussion regarding how gamers value different forms of digital entertainment across the various gaming platforms.

Anyway, here’s how spader623 kicked it off:

Let me explain. iOS has some amazing games on it. iOS gaming, while not the best, is definitely something I enjoy… But I feel like I value console games or PC or whatever more then it so I rarely play my iOS games since I can play a game that’s ‘not a mobile game’ instead of something on mobile, even if it’s really good. It’s a mindset I’m annoyed at myself for having and causes my iOS backlog to be huge. Does anyone else feel this way or have tried to get out of that mentality?

It’s an interesting problem, as I really think this sort of thing is a direct result of there just being so much content available on so many platforms. Right now my primary gaming platforms are iOS and PC, although I’ve also got a PS4 that I basically just fire up to fiddle with whatever the free PlayStation Plus games are whenever they get mentioned on Twitter. Value propositions are a tricky thing, particularly with iOS trending more and more towards free to play, it’s way easier to feel like a $60 PC game is far more substantial than a bunch of mobile games you might have gotten for free or a buck, even if your cumulative play time of those mobile games is way higher. Games are getting released at a pace that I don’t think anyone can keep up with, and backlogs have just become totally normal.

Anyway, if you want to hop in to the discussion, head into our forums.
