Back in August we came across a very neat trailer for a very neat upcoming platformer called The Amazing Bernard. The big hook behind The Amazing Bernard was that it was an auto-running platformer where you control the main character’s actions like jumping and sliding, but you also had access to several special abilities which you could place in the environment that would help him make it through each level. It was a really clever idea, and today developer Kumkwat Entertainment has released a new gameplay trailer for The Amazing Bernard showcasing exactly how the game works, very humorously narrated by the main character Bernie O’Tag himself.
From the first trailer we saw back in August I knew I liked the look and the hook of The Amazing Bernard, but it seemed like it moved so slow compared to other runners. There appears to be a slight improvement in that area based on this new trailer, but it still seems a bit slow for me. There’s still time for that to improve however, as The Amazing Bernard was originally slated for release in 2015 but has now been pushed back to sometime in early 2016, with a more specific release date coming in the first week of January. I really love the idea of placing objects and an energy meter to balance out its use, so I’ll really be looking forward to how The Amazing Bernard turns out when it launches early next year.
