There’s certainly no shortage of games that use the “light world" and “dark world" theme, but I have to say I’ve never seen a game that has you using it so much as the upcoming Alter World does. This puzzle platformer presents two different versions of each of its 80 levels, and neither version can be completed on its own. You’ll need to switch between the light and dark versions in order to progress through each one. It sounds confusing but makes more sense when you watch the trailer.
One of my all-time favorite games is The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and I loved how many puzzles required you starting out in the light world and teleporting into the dark world where something was just slightly different enough that it would let you find the correct way to progress. That same idea is in play in Alter World but you’re very constantly activating the world switching in a more real-time fashion. It looks and sounds really neat, and there’s an even more in-depth look at the gameplay on YouTube if you’re curious to see more. Otherwise look for Alter World to land on iOS November 25th.
