I’m probably weirder than most, but considering I do almost everything on my iPhone, I pay pretty close attention to how much battery I’m carrying with me. All the emails, tweets, IFTTT alerts, chat apps, and other crazy stuff I use to keep TouchArcade running like a well oiled machine don’t work if my battery is dead, so I’ve collected what most would probably consider an unhealthy amount of external battery packs over the years. Recently I picked up a Anker PowerCore 20100, which has replaced my Mophie Powerstation XL that used to have a permanent spot in my bag. It’s replacing the Anker Astro E6 at the top of their battery lineup, and the PowerCore is both nearly a third smaller and lighter.
It’s got the latest Anker charging tech, which they label as “PowerIQ" and “VoltageBoost." This basically means no matter what you plug in to it, it’ll charge it as fast as it possibly can, delivering up to 2.4 amps per USB port or 4.8 amps overall… Which is pretty nuts for a battery. Throw in the fact that it has 20,000 mAh of juice, and you’ve got enough to charge your iPhone for an entire week before you need to charge the battery pack again.
Really, the only down-side of this battery is it’s a little too big to carry in your pocket. But, that seems to be the case with all the high-capacity external batteries I’ve seen. $39.99 from Amazon also somehow blows basically everything else out of the water when it comes to dollars to mAh ratio. Anyway, I’ve been super happy with mine and definitely recommend picking one up if you’re looking for a huge battery to throw in your bag and not need to worry about charging very often because it holds so much juice.
Oh, and if you’re looking for something to charge this battery, check out my post on the lineup of Anker chargers. I’m turning into quite the Anker fanboy, but, it’s easy to do when their stuff works awesome and is super cheap to boot.
