My initial reaction to finding out that Vector Unit was showing off Riptide GP: Renegade at PAX Prime, but for consoles, was to say “Et tu, Vector Unit?" But not so fast, my friend – I met with the developers of Riptide GP 2 (Free) and Hydro Thunder Hurricane, and they confirmed that they have far from abandoned mobile – in fact, Riptide GP: Renegade will be coming to mobile very shortly after the game launces on consoles.
I got to play the console version, and it’s looking to deliver more of the solid jet-ski-racing action that the previous two entries in the series are known for. The game is now about racing through cities and other areas that you’re not necessarily supposed to race though, with cops all around to try and shut you down. It makes for some cool new courses to play through.
While the console versions are looking mightily impressive, Vector Unit says that the console version should feature the same tracks and gameplay, just with visuals scaled down for mobile devices. The plan is for the studio to launch the game for console and desktop first, with the mobile version following very shortly after if all goes to plan. There’s no release date quite yet, so just keep your eyes peeled down the road for more on this one.
