Most platformers that come out on iOS try to shoehorn console gameplay onto the touchscreen, some with more success than others. Amazing Bernard, an upcoming platformer by Kumkwat Entertainment, looks like it’s trying to take advantage of the opportunities a touchscreen offers by letting you create your own platforms as you run through the various levels. According to Appadvice, Bernie O’Tagis is a great adventurer and a hero with special abilities that allow him to manipulate the world around him. The game spans over 30 levels, and your character apparently just runs endlessly while you use your different powers, ranging from drawing platforms in the air to giving him wings, to help him through the obstacles.
The game’s art style reminds me a bit of Jonathan Blow’s Braid, just not as trippy. I do like the pallalax technique and the very nice colors, though the animation looks a bit robotic, but since this is still a work-in-progress, I won’t hold it against the developers. And there’s that interesting moment in the trailer where you have to chase Voldermort (pretty sure it’s him) while dodging his projectiles. Promising platformer, let’s just hope it delivers. The game should be out in 2015 for iOS and Android.
