Light gun games have been a big part of video games since the early days. Most everyone who was gaming in the ’80s has played Duck Hunt on the original NES, or perhaps you were a Lethal Enforcers fan in the early ’90s. Whatever the case, I always thought light gun games were really cool, and while the home console conversions were great, there really was nothing like standing up at an arcade cabinet blasting away at the screen with a (typically) brightly-colored plastic gun in your hand. One of my favorites in the arcades was Poilce Trainer. There was no real action movie-style story in Police Trainer like most light gun games of the time, and instead it was what its title led you to believe: a weapons training simulation. Police Trainer was all about skill and fast reactions, and now developer Karma Soft is looking to recreate that experience on mobile with their upcoming game Future Police.
As you can see, the Police Trainer influence is strong in Future Police, from the menus to the visuals and the actual shooting games themselves. Gallery shooters or light gun-style games have been around on mobile for a long time now, and while tapping away at a touchscreen isn’t quite the same as shooting targets with a plastic gun, it’s still a pretty great platform for this particular genre. I’m psyched to be able to get my Police Trainer fix on the go with Future Police. No word on a specific release date yet, but this one should be coming “soon" according to Karma Soft.
