A couple of months ago I wrote a story about a very good looking game called Calvino Noir. The game really stood out for its aesthetic and lovely environments, especially the game’s architecture. This “Film Noir Heist Game," as the developers call the game, would be multiplatform, with the iOS version accompanied by a PS4 and a Steam version, and episodic. Today, the developers have finally announced a release date for the PS4 version, August 25th, and with the game’s webpage stating an August 27th release date, I suppose the chances are that the game will come out for iOS Thursday, August 27th. Now, there’s always the possibility that it won’t come out on that day, but I think it’s safe to say the game should be coming out soon. The release day announcement was accompanied by a new trailer, which looks fantastic. Of course, looks fantastic and plays fantastically are two different things. The trailer is for the PS4 release, so the visuals might not be as sharp in the iOS version.
The developers also gave new information about the game, revealing that the voice actors for the game include Wolf Kahler, who played in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Anthony Howell, who voiced a few characters in Dragon Age: Inquisition. As for gameplay details, the developers talked about the challenge of balancing telling and showing the relationships between characters, but they feel that the game’s writer, Dr. Dejan Levi, met that challenge in his 12,000 word narrative that mixes classical noir with more recent cultural references. The trailer shows a more zoomed-out view of buildings than the original clips we saw, and, according to the developers, they made this chance to better show off the dramatic architecture they’ve worked on. The game looks very nice, and I’m looking forward to trying it out when it releases.
