Oh God, ‘Blood Bowl’ is Free Right Now

TouchArcade Rating:

If there is one thing that I have learned in my time at TouchArcade, it is this: Blood Bowl ($4.99) fans are really, really defensive. Seriously, you call the game esoteric, complicated, and hard to understand if you’re not familiar with the game already, and people are at your throat. Do you want to find out if my many haters from the review’s comment section are right, or if I’m once again correct? Well, Blood Bowl for iPad is free until August 23rd.

Blood Bowl 2

There’s a lot to the game, but if you play it then beware, you will need to read the lengthy online manual to even understand how to do anything. And you may never reach that point where the game is fun. I’m sure it is if you’re willing to dedicate your life to it! Are you willing to find out? Now you can do so at no risk for a limited time, with only IAP for extra teams. I did say “I’d perhaps only recommend this it it was a free game." I will admit that there’s probably something I’m missing out on, but I prefer games that are far more accessible up front and teach emergent complexity. If up-front complexity is your thing and you’re patient enough, well, give it a shot. And trust me, if Blood Bowl 2 ever comes to iOS, I ain’t touching it. I learned my lesson, and now I stay away from any Games Workshop-affiliated stores, lest someone try to get revenge on me for my review.

Just downloaded this a little bit ago. It looks decent.

I feel like it's a bit ignorant to say that they're "getting into the trend". These studios probably started these games months ago, before a trend was recognizable, and making a game that was cool for them at the time. Sure, now that they're done and have released said games, you can recognize a trend. But saying they're getting into a certain trend only now makes them seem unjustly petty, and gives the impression that they're trying to jump onto the bandwagon.

I think I've had this on my phone for the last 3 weeks. So it's not that new of a soft launch.

I absolutely love this game. When I first downloaded it I expected it to have zero substance whatsoever and thought it was just going to be one of those games where the developer put 95% of the thought and effort into the graphics with gameplay a very distant second (Godfire, Afterpulse) but I was pleasantly surprised. For me at least, this is the epitome of "just one more try!" games. I cannot put it down at all. Even if the graphics weren't half as good as they are (they are AMAZING) I would still love it. I really think PikPok hit it out of the park with this one.

Seconded. Looks and plays great. Pik Pok can seemingly do no wrong!
