‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 4’ Is Now Available on Steam, iOS Version Hopefully Following Soon

TouchArcade Rating:

Much like the mythos surrounding Five Nights at Freddy’s, the release of the fourth entry in the popular jump-scare series has been rife with vague clues and false leads. However, despite all signs pointing to an August 8th release date, Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 has just gone live on Steam, today, July 23rd. Accompanying the release on Steam is a note from developer Scott Cawthon stating: “Ok, so as many of you already know, I’m bad with release dates. The game is finished. 🙂 Enjoy!" Indeed, good sir, indeed.

All three of the previous games in the series have launched on desktop first with mobile versions coming at some point afterwards, and I’d imagine it’s the same with Five Nights at Freddy’s 4. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the App Store though, and we’ll let you know once it shows up. Perhaps the August 8th is referring to a mobile release date? Let the vague clue-based speculation begin!

It's finally coming, this is great news! My psychotic relationship with BB will finally begin anew on August 6th. Triple the content was worth the wait! Thanks for the news, Jared!

      1. Violentology

It's more than new content actually. There are new play mechanics that change some of the strategy, as well as an automatic cloud save system.

    2. slammajamma28

I deleted this off my phone a while back... Anybody know if data is stored in iCloud?

      1. Tim Longwell

It doesn't but there is code to restore resets from leaderboards and game center/ google achievements. It's not everything but it somethings so your not starting completely over.

    3. Bliquid

      Noooooooo.
I thought i got out of it.
      But you never really do...

    4. Gamer_Kev

I've never understood the fascination with these tap the screen games. Personally, I'd rather play a game where I control someone or something.

      1. The Legendary Liquid Swords

        Same here ...

      2. scottsoapbox

This. I don't like "games" that basically make one a rat clicking the button for feed pellets.

      3. Violentology

There actually is quite a bit of strategy built into it, especially with the update.

    5. nicoper

Well, my iPod died and had to be factory resetted in february or something lile that (could have been march), and I don't feel like restarting from scratch with this again...

    6. Retro Nug

Great and I just uninstalled it last night assuming no more updates were ever gonna come. 😓

      1. LarryWP

Just think of the money you will save though.

    7. TrencH

About damn time! I missed you my beautiful treadmill. I need my fix!

    8. darkelite

I will lose several more hours of my life... AGAIN!

I hate you (with love) Bitcoin Billionaire!

    9. Animalzomb

Why do they make these updates after their huge fan base dwindles down after months of no updates or news. so we all delete our hard work thinking well a year has passed and the dev even says they are working on other things rather than updates .dont get it

      1. Retro Nug

        I second this. It's lamesauce.

      2. Ryan Noodle

Actually news of the update came all the way back in Feb, only a couple months post release. A game like BB takes an immense amount of testing and balancing to get all the elements right, so when the devs basically created a whole new game inside of the original, along with enough new content to triple the playing time, we had to make sure it was right. Game dev = hard. We still hope you will check it out though. It is worth the wait!

        1. Animalzomb

I will def check it out still. I actually just reinstalled the game and I am putting in a lot time getting everything back. I understand that the game probably isn't run by a big company but little things, like communication to fans and players is so simple and you have the biggest outlet to talk to them which is the internet like Twitter toucharcade Facebook ect... Not To sound like an a hole which I understand it takes months and months to get things together but just a simple update on Twitter or Facebook once a month or couple weeks to let fans and gamers of the game know hey don't give up yet we are Wellington this every month. Not saying you have to do that but you hot a lot of dedicated people that spend just as much time playing as they do building the game.
Just communication would be appreciated by everyone.
I love the game , always did. I spammed the crap out of it in a bunch of places . Appreciate the hard work and dedication the dev put in on it.
Cool game and if that much content was in the works , man what a build up and hype it would have gotten and a lot of us wouldn't have deleted the game.
Congrats on the big announcement and hard work to them for doing it though.

          1. Michael (FizzPow)

I understand the need for communication, which is why we have been posting almost weekly updates on our Facebook, Twitter (@FizzPow) and even Reddit now for many months. Noodlecake has also retweeted most of our updates as well.

            1. Animalzomb

Awesome . Well can't wait for the update. I get all of your games and will buy some iaps to support your hard work. Thanks for the upcoming content

      3. Violentology

Because the team is very small, and what was going to be a quick update done in a few months turned into a huge update in not only content, but in adding new play mechanics.
So basically this isn't Just a content update, it's BB 2. It has triple the content, true, but it also has new play systems and built in room for expansion this time.

And before anyone else asks this question,; Have you ever Looked at the credits? Count how many coders are working on a game of this quality. Since it's apparently not obvious I'll count for you... 1.... Hmm... it seems to stop there.

Now, on top of new systems and play mechanics and triple the content, add in releasing BB 2 for iOS and Android at the same time.
Can you understand what took the time? If not, just DL the new game and you'll see. You're quite welcome to rage quit after that. :)

Oh, and BB 2, Bitstone to the Past has an automatic cloud save feature as well. So those that haven't deleted won't ever have to worry about it, and those that have deleted, besides getting some of your Achievements and all of your purchases back; finishing the game now is such a bigger goal, that getting back to where you were isn't that big of a deal.

        1. Ryan Noodle

Thanks for being a fan and getting back into it. You will love the update Im sure. I would suggest following @fizzpow on twitter as they have been really active tweeting and giving news about the update since back in Feb. We usually post something on twitter now and again but not as much as they do. Unfortunately we cant get the fine folks at TA to cover every one of our little announcements, as much as I would love that ;)

    10. danieljk12

How can I change what my character looks like?

      1. Ryan Noodle

If you head to the store button on the phone you can pick Character. This allows you to change your characters look for 1 Hyperbit!

        1. danieljk12

          Thanks!

    11. GraisonSwaan

I quit playing this months ago when they couldn't be bothered to patch it

      1. Violentology

"Couldn't be bothered" was actually 7 months of coding, art, music, writing, and a lot of testing.

        1. GraisonSwaan

Ads kept crashing my game, which they were aware of, I didn't care about extra content at the time.

          1. Violentology

Which was explained by the developer as a third party SDK issue that was updated yet still affected a tiny portion of players.
I'm sorry you were one of those few, but the new update might actually fix that for you.

    12. Squatch2000

Finally one of my obsessions pays off!!! I have been playing this game a little every day with the goal of eventually maxing out all of my investments until they cost over 1Bb and I couldn't buy anymore. I was doing this mostly as a goof.

      1. Violentology

Investment limit is 100, so nowhere near 1Bb.
