Many times from the mouth of our glorious leader Eli Hodapp has come these words: “Just make Crossy Road (Free), jeez." And some have taken that to heart, quite literally. Now Zynga is getting in on the fun with Mountain Goat Mountain (Free), which has just gone global. This has you controlling a goat ascending a mountain, with the ability to eat grass, hop on springs, and move in 4 diagonal directions to dodge hazards. You’ll collect coins, which can be spent on treasure chests to unlock new goats, including VR Goat.
Now, there’s going to be the inevitable comparisons to the just-released Down the Mountain (Free), which is very similar. Now, the similarities are likely coincidental. We first posted about DTM on June 9th, and Mountain Goat Mountain showed up on the App Store on June 15th in a soft launch. The game’s production values indicate this wasn’t just quickly slapped together, unless Zynga’s getting really good at doing that. Granted, Zynga’s been guilty of cloning stuff before, but this looks like it’s just a case of them hopping on the Q-Bert-esque trend that I’ve noticed with Down the Mountain and even Dribble Madness (Free), and I’m sure there are other games out now and in the works that are similarly tackling this sort of gameplay. There’s definitely differences in what Mountain Goat Mountain is doing compared to those other games. Zynga’s only guilty of just making Crossy Road, jeez.
