Check Out ‘Canabalt’ Running on an Apple Watch

TouchArcade Rating:

Canabalt ($2.99), the seminal iOS endless runner, went open source a few years ago. The bad news is that this led to the occasional straight-up clone popping up on the App Store. Such is the drawback of open source. But the benefit of open source is that sometimes people do really cool things with the code, like porting a game to platforms you wouldn’t expect them to. Adam Bell decided to port the game to the Apple Watch, and shared a video of his exploits:

This probably isn’t the ideal way to play Canabalt, but it’s still technically impressive to get that game running on a smartwatch at full speed and being somewhat playable! I don’t know if we should ever expect this to come out, nor do I know if we would want it to, because it might not be any fun. Regardless, it’s still cool to see with a new hardware type just what people are able to hack up with it. These sorts of experiments help us find out just what games could be on the Apple Watch, and what its capabilities really are.
