2013 was the year that some really good car racing games, Real Racing 3 and Asphalt 8: Airborne, hit the App Store, exciting many racing fans who do their gaming on tablets and phones with their graphics and content. Rebellion has decided to join the racing games party and develop a motorcycle racing game, admittedly a genre with less competition than the car racing one. So, the company is developing Raceline CC, a first-person high-speed motorcycle racing game that supports Apple’s Metal technology and promises an “unmatched sense of speed." As you can see from the trailer below, the game is all about quick reflexes as you swiftly race across traffic-packed roads in the hopes of making it first to the finish line in one piece.
There will be championships, daily challenges, and even boss races, and you’ll be able to customize your bikes both in terms of performance and appearance. The customization part always makes me a bit nervous in games like these because it allows for pay-to-win elements to creep into the gameplay as some players can access better upgrades by paying, which makes the whole competing part of a game pointless. Of course, I have no idea how Raceline CC will handle the upgrade issue, and I’m hoping that the company will find a way to make competitive racing worthwhile.
The game will be universal and should be coming at some point this Summer, so if riding motorcycles is your thing or you’re just looking for a very quick-paced racing game, stay tuned for further news. Many of the company’s previous mobile games (Judge Dredd vs Zombies, Guns 4 Hires, etc) are F2P, so I expect this one to go down the same route.
