Terra Battle has just been updated to version 2.6, and this update adds among other features music from one of the top anime and game composers. When Terra Battle (Free) was released a year and a half ago, it was a pleasant surprise for many as it’s rare to find a social RPG with so much strategic complexity. In addition to its complexity, Terra Battle had an intriguing system in place, called “Download Starter," that was a kickstarter-like system where the number of future downloads determined the content that would be unlocked, from new art, new game modes, and so on.
According to Mistwalker, the new 2.6 update introduces some of the many rewards from the Download Starter campaign, including a new chapter to the game, new music from Yasunori Mitsuda, composer for the legandary Chrono Trigger, a new daily quest with character designs from Naoto Ohshima of Sonic the Hedgehog fame, additional new characters like Bahamut and Leviathan, and more. Finally, Mistwalker announced that the Terra Battle Art Book, which was part of the Download Starter, goes on sale today in Japan with a Western release coming later.
I am a fan of the Download Starter campaign because it provides a nice roadmap that displays the vision of the company for the game’s future and lets me know whether it’s worth keeping an eye on this game in the future. This campaign seems to have worked for Mistwalker as the game has officially reached 2.1 million players, above the 2 million players which was the goal of the original Download Starter campaign, and therefore the developers will be creating a Download Starter 2 (tentative title) to begin promising new rewards.
