Bad Timing Award: ‘EA Sports UFC’ and its Jon ‘Bones’ Jones Cover

TouchArcade Rating:

Apparently, Madden NFL is not the only game franchise that has a curse associated with its cover, as the EA Sports UFC (Free) mobile game has just one-upped it big time. For those who don’t play Madden NFL, there’s a so-called “Madden Curse" that states that the player who appears on the cover of a Madden NFL game either has a very bad season or gets injured. Well, EA Sports UFC, a pretty good MMA game that’s just been released, put Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones" Jones as its App Icon, and lo and behold, Jones has not only been suspended indefinitely by the UFC, but has also had his belt stripped.

While Jones is an exceptional fighter, and for many probably the Greatest of All Time (GOAT), he’s also been infamous for his escapades outside the Octagon (including DUIs and even a one-night stint in rehab). A couple of days ago, Jones topped all his previous mistakes by (allegedly) running a red-light, crashing into a car that was being driven by a pregnant woman, and escaping the scene on foot. Dana White, UFC’s president, took action this time around and suspended Jones indefinitely while also stripping him of his belt. I wonder whether EA Sports UFC will be seeing an icon change in an update soon. But yeah, when it comes to the cover curse, UFC just knocked out Madden.
