There are some developers who are very protective of pre-release game footage. Sometimes this is for good reason, like protecting simple game ideas from getting exposed and replicated by unscrupulous developers willing to create spurious apps before the authentic ones can come out. But often, this is just misguided silliness – not to name names, but there’s always rad games I see at GDC where developers are scared of getting video out there, even though their games look amazing in early form. Jordan Pearson, developer of Cally’s Caves (Free) and Cally’s Caves 2 (Free), is not one of those developers. In fact, he’s just posted a gameplay video of an early build of Cally’s Caves 3 that runs for almost 50 minutes, showing off the shotgun weapon in the game, and the intended balancing of the weapon.
Pearson has a Twitch channel, so hopefully we’ll be seeing more footage of Cally’s Caves 3 as it nears completion. The first two Cally’s Caves games were solid mobile-exclusive Metroidvania platformers that were also inexplicably free. So definitely keep an eye on this one as it continues development.
