It seems like ever since Hearthstone (Free) has become so huge, developers intentionally (or unintentionally) have been looking for a piece of that pie. EarthCore is the latest free to play CCG we’ve seen, and its core differentiating feature is its totally unique crafting system which allows you to create cards with the abilities you want, instead of just creating specific cards. Check it out:
EarthCore has been soft launched in Canada for a while now, and we’ve got a thread in our forums filled with a few people who seem to be digging it quite a bit. Definitely add this game to your watch list if you’re in the market for another CCG.
Love this game so much. Really wish they would release the sequels.
I would pay way more than I should for shining force 2 or shining force 3 or shining the holy ark. Way more than I should. Like maybe a kidney...
I... Wow... How did I not know this was on the App Store?!
Buying now!
Because it came out 100 years ago in App Store time.
I wish Sega would update their Genesis emulator, and while they're at it, let us load other ROMs. They've done it before with their AtGames machines.
So many wonderful memories of this game. I still remember how damn smart I felt when I found the Ninja recruitable character in the bush. This was before online game guides obviously, so discovering secret NPCs felt truly special. Also, screw that level with the laser beam blasting the cliff.
Ha, I remember getting so frustrated on that one
This game, along with Street Fighter II SCE, Shining Force II, Phantasy Star II & IV was a massive part of my gaming life and my childhood
I so wish Sega had ported this with upgraded graphics etc to Nintendo's handheld devices as I'm convinced it would've lead to Shining Force III Scenarios 1-3 making its way to the west.
SFIII's scenarios 2&3, along with Shenmue's full story, are the biggest holes in my gaming life.
I think the interest and potential for sale just wasn't there, sadly. :( But it would have been wonderful, yes.
Nice! This one seems very intersting! Thanks for the article!
I'll always remember buying this game when it came out, at a very 1970s-looking Kmart (which closed and has been many things since, now airline reservation call center). My copy smelled awful for some reason, like a skunk.
I loved the heck out of the game, though, and games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Disgaea, which can get really complicated with all the jobs and systems, kind of make me think back to good old, simple Shining Force. (Of course, as was stated, it's really Shining Force II that is the gem.)
I suppose my love of this game paved the way for me to play X-COM and Jagged Alliance (I can't remember when I first played them, but they were on 3.5" floppy disks). I remember waking up early in the mornings so that I could play Shining Force before going to elementary school. :)
It's a real shame we haven't gotten more Shining games on iOS (the good ones, anyway), as they're well-suited, but I guess they just don't sell, and the GBA version is better anyway.
Oh yeah, and I was one of those people who kept leveling Jogurt, thinking surely he had a use... :) I was a patient kid!
I bought Shining Force, I would love to actually play it, but the interface is so bad and clunky that I can't stand it.
