Despite being an oddly polarizing title in our community, we really dig Hail to the King: Deathbat (Free). We posted a review and made it out game of the week. Now, we’ve got a behind the scenes video featuring M Shadows and Zacky Vengeance from Avenged Sevenfold talking about the sound design of the game in front of an incredibly impressive array of Mortal Kombat machines. Check it out:
The cool part of going behind the game and getting a chance to actually talk to M Shadows about the game and seeing this video is the realization that despite being rock stars at the end of the day these dudes are just old school gamers. It seems like a lot of the time in mobile games, soundtracks and sound effects are just an afterthought that get filled in with whatever is cheap and royalty free. The music in Hail to the King: Deathbat is really awesome, particularly if you recognize some of the original songs when playing.
Here’s some of the sound effects that M Shadows mentions in the video, I re-encoded them to work as iOS alerts if that’s the kind of thing you’re in to:
Download those files, add ’em to iTunes, and you should be able to sync them over to your iOS device pretty easily to use as text message alerts, new email sounds, or whatever else you want to use them for.
