The latest Angry Birds game is now out worldwide. Angry Birds Stella (Free), now free from its soft-launch release, stars Stella, a pink bird who has a power of her own, to freeze in midair and launch in another direction, helping to activate chain explosions and the like. There’s a whole new cast of characters to play as, each with their own abilities, but it’s still the same core Angry Birds game. Much like Angry Birds Star Wars 2 (Free), it’s possible to buy extra characters to use in challenging levels, or to use telepods to bring in extra characters.
The title is as a whole focused toward a female audience. Female birds round out the cast of playable characters. The color scheme is also much more focused around pinks and pastel colors than previous versions. It feels a bit like it’s trying to go for the obvious ways to appeal to women, but hey: they’re a growing gaming demographic, and while the series certainly appealed to them before, an entry targeting them has some potential to do well for Rovio.
Plus, much like Secret deoderant, it’s strong enough for a man, but made for a woman, since it does introduce actual new mechanics into the series. So for all the tough guys who like flinging birds: get some bright and colorful birds in your life, and then go hang some sheet rock around an engine you’re rebuilding or something.
