Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse ($4.99) has just gotten its second price cut, and boy is it a doozy. Sega’s quasi-remake of the beloved Sega Genesis game has dropped all the way down from $9.99 to $0.99. This is a bargain price for what is a console/PC game that retails for $14.99, on mobile for next to nothing.
The game’s a 2.5D take on the original concept, featuring 3D visuals but mostly 2D platforming with some 3D movement sections. The game only uses two buttons and a virtual joystick, so it’s not a terrible fit for mobile, though it is unfortunately lacking gamepad support. The game was originally released right around when the first MFi gamepads were coming out, and unfortunately an update has yet to materialize with support for it.
The timing of this price drop is interesting with Bioshock ($9.99) just releasing for $14.99, as we have two games that were both born on console/PC, but one is acquiescing to mobile pricing, while the other is priced pretty fairly for a legacy game. Castle of Illusion is only about a year old – and the mobile port 9 months old, so getting this game for a dollar is a steal, especially since we reviewed it four stars back at release. No better time than now to pick this one up if you’ve had your eye on it.
