iOS Version of Peter Molyneux’s ‘Godus’ Soft-Launches in the New Zealand App Store

Peter Molyneux’s development studio 22cans has just soft-launched the iOS version of their “God game" Godus in the New Zealand App Store. Godus is something of a spiritual successor to Molyneux’s classic Populous, with some other games he’s worked like Dungeon Keeper and Black & White influencing the design. Godus is the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign that ended in December 2012, and this past September a beta of the game was launched on Mac and PC by way of Steam Early Access. It’s always been intended as a mobile game too, and 22can’s previous iOS “experiment" Curiosity – What’s Inside the Cube? plays a part in it by having the person who eventually made it to the center of the cube acting as a God in Godus.

All Molyneux marketing craziness aside, I’ve definitely been interested to see how Godus turns out, as I enjoyed Black & White back in the day and in general am fascinated by the “God game" genre. I’ll be downloading this soft-launch version over the weekend, and if you’re a New Zealander or simply have access to a NZ App Store account, you can also give the free download of Godus a spin. No word on when it will officially launch worldwide, but in the meantime you can find early impressions in our forums.
