In October of 2012, Stainless Games released an iOS port of their 1997 cult-classic vehicular manslaughter game Carmageddon (Free) as part of their revival of the series with a planned reboot for consoles and PC called Carmageddon: Reincarnation.
It was originally released on iOS for free, as it was meant to be a reward for backers of Reincarnation’s Kickstarter campaign. But seeing as there’s no way to limit who downloads what from the App Store, lots of people nabbed Carmageddon for free when it launched on iOS, backer or not.
Well, if you missed out on that initial freebie or any of the sales or freebies that have happened since then, now is the time to strike as Carmageddon is currently free on the App Store for a limited time to celebrate the reboot’s imminent release on Steam Early Access.
I’m one of those people that didn’t play Carmageddon originally back in the ’90s, but discovered its awesomeness thanks to the iOS release all these years later. It’s dated for sure, but it’s also a ton of fun. What I like most is the variety of ways you can play. You can beat a level by simply finishing first in a race, by destroying the vehicles of all of your racing opponents, or by seeking out and killing all the poor, innocent bystanders roaming around the environment.
It’s fun to play as strictly a racing game or if you just feel like going on a murderous rampage. Whether you’re a fan of the original or completely new to the game, definitely nab Carmageddon on iOS during the free promotion.
