If you’ve been following along with the development of Ossian Studios’ The Shadow Sun, you’ll be pleased to know that the game is finally ready for release, set to hit the App Store on December 19th. Originally unveiled more than three years ago, The Shadow Sun is a Western-style action RPG headed up by a team with experience in some pretty major RPG releases of the past, like Neverwinter Nights and the Baldur’s Gate series. Development has been slow-going, with bits and pieces of new info and new screens appearing periodically, culminating with the first official trailer being released last month, which you can see below.
I think the real question will be whether something that was originally slated for release in 2010 can still hold its own today, with all the advancements in technology and incredible iOS games that have been released in the time since then. At the very least, given the pedigree of the developers, I think The Shadow Sun will be an enjoyable adventure for RPG fans, but might not have the “wow" factor that it would have a couple of years ago. We’ll find out soon enough and should have a full review ready in time for release. No pricing has been announced yet, but keep an eye out for The Shadow Sun to land next Thursday and hit up our forums for more.
