Infinite Dreams’ 2003 Symbian shoot ’em up Sky Force is getting a fancy 3D remake on iOS called Sky Force Anniversary. You may remember that this isn’t the first time the Sky Force series has appeared on iOS, as both the original Sky Force and its sequel Sky Force Reloaded were both ported to the App Store in 2010 and 2009 respectively (yes, the sequel was actually ported before the original). Unfortunately, due to incompatibility with iOS updates, both titles have been pulled from sale. However, both were great old-school style shooters that worked wonderfully on the touchscreen, and so I’m very much looking forward to the Anniversary redux.
As you can see from this first in-game screenshot, Sky Force Anniversary is looking mighty pretty. The original games were novel for their pseudo-3D environments that gave the game a feeling of depth, as well as its scoring system which had you destroying a certain percentage of enemies in a stage in order to progress as well as picking up human survivors scattered throughout the landscape for bonus points. It was a super fun game, and the original looked darn good even years later when it was ported to iOS. But the Anniversary edition is looking even better, as Infinite Dreams is using their experience gained from making other titles as well as current technology to remake Sky Force.
Infinite Dreams estimates they’re about halfway done with production of Sky Force Anniversary, so expect it to hit at some point in 2014. Until then follow along with the discussion in our forums and we’ll bring you any further news as it hits.
