The TouchArcade Show - 68 - It's Like 'Infinity Blade' But With...

Friday, September 7th, 2012

On this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show, Eli talks about his new diet and how he's going to cope with being away from home base for a few days. We also break down some of this week's hottest releases, including an intriguing monster training game called Little Masters and Avengers Initiative.

If you're hot for Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, stick around. We've got a build and we discuss our experiences with the title, touching on what it's like to play a wicked old game on a platform that didn't exist when it first launched and the challenges Beamdog has in front of it, as it preps the exciting release.

Later in the show, we dive into the front page and also touch on Steam Greenlight, the latest video game crowd-sourcing thing. The rest of what we talk about is listed in our notes just below:

The TouchArcade Show - 67 - A Hair Oiling Intervention

Friday, August 31st, 2012

On this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show, we ask what kind of oil is best for, you know, greasing up muscles. We also talk about video games: at the top, we give some time to Final Fantasy Dimensions and some new TouchArcade content highly inspired by the Walled Garden Weekly podcast. A little later, we dive into Double Fine's free-to-play sim Middle Manager of Justice, the oft-hilarious point-and-click title McPixel, and Blast-A-Way, Illusion Labs' latest iPhone and iPad joint. Good stuff.

After the break, we hit the latest news, including the recent ESRB listing of Kareteka, the sudden release of Bastion on iPad, and other notables.

If you'd like to listen, please do so via the links below. You can also subscribe to us on iTunes and Zune. Please note that, for whatever reason, the Apple podcast app doesn't work with our podcast. If know why, tell us! That'd be great.

The TouchArcade Show - Bonus - Interview With Sos

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

Indie game creator Sos Sosowski embraces silliness and loves action. He also digs point-and-click, too. With his new game he has combined these elements into an incoherent, but lovely fast-paced adventure game where failure often yields the most compelling results.

Put a gun to my head and force me to categorize McPixel [$2.99 / Free], and I'll say it's a point-and-click game. I'd feel terrible about it, though, because it's definitely not traditional genre fare. In the game, you're tasked with defusing or getting rid of bombs across 100 levels. In each level you're given 20 seconds to find a solution using absurd adventure game logic that has you doing things like, say, handing a bomb wrapped in a hotdog bun to an alien smoking an illegal substance -- on a desert island.

The TouchArcade Show - 66 - Quit Bein' Mad About Video Games

Friday, August 24th, 2012

This week on the TouchArcade Show, we make fun of angry Internet comments. We also toss a lot of time to Vote, Chair Entertainment's political hack-and-slash video game. In our actual games section, we dive into the latest, greatest, and best in iOS: Dragon Island, Infinite Warrior, Window Warrior, and Mikey Shorts all get some time in the spotlight.

In our second half, we dive into our Warhammer hopes and dreams, as I get excited about Games Workshop embracing phones and tablets. We also discuss Plants vs. Zombies and our feelings on what appears to be some struggles at PopCap Games.

There's much more of course. If you'd like to listen, punch these links below. If you'd like to subscribe and get our content the second its released wide on the web, you can do so via iTunes and Zune Marketplace.

In our games section, we give a shout-out to some notables, including Cafeteria Nipponica, Puzzle Craft, and Random Heroes.

Topics of other discussion also include the price one studio is paying for launching free-to-play, SEGA's new indie game publishing program Sega Alliance, Eli's popularity on Yelp, the $60 value proposition of console titles, and much, much more.

The TouchArcade Show - 63 - After Hours Special

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

So... this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show is a little different. It's just Eli and me in an After Hours special that mostly revolves around EA's somewhat disappointing (at least for us, to be fair, it seemed fairly console-focused) Summer Showcase event. At the top of the show, we discuss the reveal of Real Racing 3, a video game with cars in it. After that, we dive into the new features of FIFA 13 and the next project from Bejeweled creator PopCap Games.

Jared was at this event on assignment, so he couldn't join us this week, but hopefully, you'll dig what we were able to put together without the Bearded One's soothing presence and awesome commentary.

If you want to listen, please do so. We've got some streamable links below. We're also available on iTunes and Zune. If you want our stuff the second it hits, subscribing is the way to go, no doubt.

The TouchArcade Show - Bonus - Interview With Eighty Eight Games

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

The success of 10000000 [$1.99] is one of those feel-good App Store stories. One guy, with a vision, makes a video game in his spare time. After a year of work, he launches it. He expects nothing, just downloads from friends. But then a wave of positive feedback hits, and now his low-budget, spare time video game rockets up the paid app charts just like a new Disney Mobile or Gameloft game usually does.

The creator of 10000000 is Luca Redwood. He's a software engineer during the day, and the designer of a top 30 game by night. He had nine months to develop 10000000 and execute on the ideas in his head while working his full-time job.

Redwood explains the crunch in our latest edition of the TouchArcade Show. "It's pretty hard work," he says. "The thing that made it really busy was that I wanted to this game and I'm thinking, 'OK, cool, this is going to be good.' And then my wife was pregnant."

The TouchArcade Show - 62 - A Wicked Case of Banana Mouth

Friday, July 27th, 2012

We're much more on-topic in this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show. At the top, we note our zombie fatigue and talk about the latest rash of zombie video games, including Telltale Games' masterful point-and-click adventure game, Walking Dead: The Game. Later, we dive back into Fieldrunners 2 alongside Eli, which leads to a discussion about how we'd like games to be balanced. Other topics this week include: cloned games, subscription gaming, Firemint post-merger, and the upcoming TouchArcade app update (which actually was submitted today). Unfortunately, we recorded the podcast just before discovering the incredible 10000000 [$1.99], so if you're looking for an awesome game to play this weekend and want to be up on it for when we talk about it next week, check out our review.

If you'd like to give us a listen this week, go ahead via the links below. Additionally, you can subscribe to us on iTunes and Zune. Subscribing is the quickest way to get our latest content, so it's a smart move.

The TouchArcade Show - 61 - I'd Rather Be Elite

Friday, July 20th, 2012

On this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show, we talk about video games. Also, other stuff. For instance, at the top, Eli tells us how to make a zero carb pizza and what it is like to be a member of the Yelp illuminati. If that's not your cup of tea, don't get all angry at us. When we shift into iPad and iPhone, we do it hard, leading off with a discussion about Organ Trail and Fieldrunners 2. New releases like Great Big War Game and Pocket Minions also get some time.

If you'd like to give us a listen this week, go ahead via the links below. You can also subscribe to our podcast on iTunes and Zune. The latter is the preferred method. You'll get our newest stuff the second it hits the Web. That's cool, right? Right.

The TouchArcade Show - 59 - Bad Astronauts

Friday, July 6th, 2012

This week's episode of The TouchArcade Show is a great one. At the top, the usual cast and crew talk about Spec Ops: The Line and Spelunky, the latter of which seems like the hottest Xbox Live Arcade release since, uh, Fez. Later, we do manage to dive into all sorts of iPad and iPhone goodness. Expect to hear a lot about The End, Happy Street, and Left 2 Die in our games section. Other topics include the line between iterating and copying, touch controls, and physical controllers.

If you'd like to give us a listen this week, do just that below. You can also subscribe to us on iTunes and Zune Marketplace. Don't forget about Apple's new podcast app, by the way. If you like to listen to us on your devices, that app is a good way to do it.

'Outwitters' Hits the App Store, Here's a Primer

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012

After what probably felt like a lifetime of drawing, animating, and otherwise supporting little circular blobs for Tilt to Live and its billions of updates, One Man Left decided it was time to move on. Its next project, which just hit the App Store, is an artistically and mechanically brilliant strategy game called Outwitters [Free]. These two games couldn't be more functionally different, and that was the point. Outwitters is the end result of the team's desire to express itself in a title that didn't have anything to do with dots.

In a weird way I kinda hope that these guys get bored more often. Outwitters feels like what it was for the team on a practical level: a breath of fresh air. It's also scary good.

On this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show bonus edition, we talk about Outwitters with One Man Left's Alex and Adam. As we were talking, I started thinking about how we were going to angle the podcast. I didn't have to think long. By the end of the show, I realized we had inadvertently created something of an oral primer for the game.

The TouchArcade Show - 58 - You Only Live Once

Friday, June 29th, 2012

On this week's wildly off-topic episode of The TouchArcade show, we dig into weight loss and buffalo wings. When we do get around to the latest, hottest, and best in iOS, we do it hard. At the top, we discuss Be-Rad Entertainment's WarGames: WOPR. Later, Eli tells us all about Crabs and Penguins, while Jared gives us his take on Unstoppable Fists. In our news section, we cover a smattering of topics, including the reveal of Horn, Temple Run as a genre, and Zynga Partners.

If you'd like to listen this week, go ahead via the links below. If you'd like to be a true pal, go ahead and subscribe to us on iTunes. That's the fastest way to get our new shows. I want to mention here that the new official Apple podcast app is a great way to get our new stuff on the go, if you usually listen to us on your phone or tablet.

On this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show the usual crew is recharged and ready to bring you the latest, greatest, and hottest in iOS. At the top, we talk about our trip to WWDC. Later, in our games segment, we dive into Squids: Wild West, Magic 2013, and Adult Swim's Velocirapture. Other topics we touch on include the Elgato GameCapture HD, the reception of Pocket Planes, and Tetris Holdings' recent court victory.
