The TouchArcade Show - 42 - Live From GDC!

Friday, March 9th, 2012

On this very special episode of The TouchArcade Show, we not only are recording together in person at GDC but we're also joined by Nissa…! Audio quality is a little rough, and the crazy nature of this week has made the show a little shorter than you may be used to.

BUT, it'll be fun all the same. We'll probably do a jumbo episode next week as we all get back and actually have time to play proper games again.

The TouchArcade Show - 41 - Love Letters to Jared

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

This week's episode of the TouchArcade Show is way more ... irreverent than usual. It was a "slow" week overall, as studios are zipping their lips, so they can blow off our socks at Game Developers Conference 2012. The top of the podcast is a mash of talk that covers an insane range of stuff -- from Android to muscles, it's there. Towards the middle segment we do dip into games, and at the end we talk a little bit about iPad 3.

If this is your first show, wow, you picked an awesome week! To give us a listen, just hit one of these convenient links. If you like what you hear, consider subscribing to us on iTunes or Zune. It's free, it's awesome, and we love our regular listeners.

Fluttermind On 'Incoboto'

Monday, February 20th, 2012

Last week, TouchArcade hooked up with Fluttermind's Dene Carter to talk about his studio and its first release, Incoboto. If you've been following the production of the 2D side-scrolling puzzle, er, experience on our forums, you've seen enough to make one of those purchasing gut checks. You've noticed how good it looks. You've got a sense of its scope and scale and tasted its tone. If you've been reading especially closely, you might have even been infected by Dene's quirk and enthusiasm. He got us, at least.

This isn't an easy game to talk about off-handedly. It's not as derivative as most mash ups, and it's also really strange. We asked Dene for his elevator pitch, which revealed something vital about the project as a cohesive whole: it's about embracing the odd or the irrational.

'The Other Brothers' Devs On Passion, Influence

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

It's never a good time for iPad and iPhone developers to talk about the games that have influenced their upcoming products. There's a fine line between iterating and outright copying, and a lot of iOS studios and consumers don't seem to understand the difference.

Making matters worse, Zynga and Glu Mobile made some waves earlier this month by straight-up ripping off Tiny Tower. The proximity of this wretched news makes influence conversations even more touchy than usual.

And so our conversation with the three guys behind The Other Brothers, Thomas Pasieka, Matthew Davey, and Bjorn Hurri, got off to a shaky start. In an attempt to glean what the visually gifted game actually mechanically was, I decided to ask about its obvious influences. I was met with pretty guarded responses.

Riverman Media And The Trials And Risks Of 'Pizza vs. Skeleton's' Development

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Like sweat and weights, the two men behind Riverman Media complement each other. Jake is an idea man and a talented art dude. Paul is a designer and a programmer who figures out how to translate Jake's off-the-wall ideas into familiar game structures. Together, these guys have released several games, but none as complex, trying, or as absolutely bent as their next.

In our interview complement to our regular show this week, we talked with Riverman about this project, which is called Pizza vs. Skeletons. One of the most fascinating things we discovered is just how well Jake and Paul Stevens mesh. They're brothers and business partners, and a tic to the other's toe. Audio just below:
