This week's podcast is overwhelmed by excitement surrounding two things: The Tesla Model 3 and Miitomo [Free]. If car stuff doesn't interest you (We talk about the rumored Apple Car and other sort of related things as well) skip to around 15:00 in to get straight to the game chat. Aside from a bunch of talk about Miitomo and what it means for the future of Nintendo, we get into Flipped Out [$2.99], the Powerpuff Girls game, along with Extreme Gear: Demolition Arena [Free]. We're pretty big fans of both. Along with that, we chat about a few of the big news stories of the week including some speculation surrounding Pokemon Go.

8115986_largerWe kick off this week's podcast with a quick health check, and it'd appear that miraculously no one got sick at GDC. LogoThe week before GDC is always totally insane for us, but things are even going to get crazier next week as we meet with dozens of different developers to see what kind of new cool stuff they're working on. LogoAfter some brief chat about hoverboards, of all things, we quickly hop into talking about the weird news surrounding Pokemon Go being a no-show this year at GDC, along with other Nintendo-y stuff. From there we talk a bit about the insane launch of Clash Royale [Free], how awesome Lost Socks [$1.99] is, and how much we wish Faily Brakes [Free] was just a little bit better. Jared discovers a "Mike Meade game" in I Love My Circle [$1.99] and before shifting gears to the news, we're all amazed that Little Red Sled [Free] is on the App Store... And it still works. Hey, everyone! We're finally back on schedule! Once you're done celebrating that fact, come on back around and have a listen to Eric, Andy, and I discussing Spiderweb Software's Avadon: The Black Fortress HD [$9.99 (HD)]. That comes after a fairly lengthy discussion about RPGs in general, per usual. We talk about Final Fantasy 9 [$20.99], Hearthstone [Free], Fire Emblem Fates, and Eric's latest shenanigans. But how does Ernest Borgnine figure into all of this? You'll have to listen to find out!..

LogoAs you probably heard at the start of the show, we've got some BRAND SPANKIN' NEW MUSIC! It's by our own Nathan Reinauer and it's super sweet. If you want to download it, and do whatever with it, here's the intro song and the outro music. I love it. Aside from awesome music, there's a whole super-long podcast to back that all up, we kick off the show talking about I Keep Having This Dream [$1.99], Slide the Shakes [Free] and the crazy history behind Assassin's Creed: Identity [$4.99]. From there we shift gears to talk about Blackbox [Free], Epic Flail [Free] and Jared gets a quick mention in about how much he's enjoying Love You to Bits [$3.99]. We chat quickly about a few news stories, and then get into our GDC plans before closing it all out. As we mention in the show, if you like what we do here, please consider supporting us on Patreon!

The TouchArcade Show - 245 - Police Academy 8

February 19th, 2016 8:45 PM EDT by Eli Hodapp in Podcast

LogoWe kick off the show this week talking about my recent foray into police work, which is somehow vaguely relevant to discussing the recent drama surrounding Apple taking a stand on iPhone encryption. Since this is an iOS games podcast and all, we talk about the big releases of the week including Tennis Champs Returns [Free], Thumb Drift [Free] and Rayman Classic [$0.99] which spawned a whole different discussion on where Rayman stood in the world of retro gaming. From there, we discuss a few big news stories of the week and then pack it up for next week's episode. The TouchArcade Show - 244 - Listener Emails!

February 12th, 2016 7:00 PM EDT by Eli Hodapp in Podcast

LogoWe recorded a little early in the week, as today Jared is off at some professional golf thing following Justin Timberlake around. No. For real. Anyway, we kick things off talking about my new furnace, my trip to New York to visit the guys at Turbo and getting a behind the scenes peek at the upcoming Super Senso which we've also been streaming pretty regularly on Mobcrush. We then went through our massive backlog of listener emails, so if you've sent an email in and haven't heard it yet, chances are it's on this show. Games discussed include the onslaught of RPG's released this week such as Adventures of Mana [$9.99], Ys Chronicles II [$4.99], and Final Fantasy IX [$20.99]. From there I gush over the soft launched Saber's Edge for a while, then Jared and I discuss both _PRISM [$2.99] and Tomb of the Mask [Free] before we bring it on home. Hello, friends! We're almost back to the normal schedule for the RPG Reload Podcast, and that means we've only got one featured game this time around. Our usual roster of Eric Ford, Andy Fretz, and I take a look at Nameless: The Hackers RPG [$4.99] in this episode, and as usual, there's a lot of chat about other things beforehand. Each of us shares our thoughts on Crashlands [$4.99] and its many wonders. We also spend some time discussing some of the difficulties in factoring price points into reviews. We also got around to answering a reader question sent to us way back in the distant year of 2015. Admittedly, we go off topic for a while in the middle of the show, but it's all for the sake of droning on about games, so I'm sure we're fine, right?..

811576_larger-2With me visiting Turbo this week for a look behind the scenes of Super Senso, we actually ended up recording the podcast in the limbo between when all the games start sneaking out in the morning and when they are released globally in the evening. So, with no new games to talk about yet we spent the first half of the podcast talking about my super secret trip to Blizzard as part of their process of figuring out what to do with card rotation in Hearthstone. On the other side, we talk about some of the cooler news stories of the week, and get back to the time honored tradition of speculating what Nintendo is going to do after all the Nintendo news this week.

6444269_largerWe kick off this week's episode by wishing we could spend another week just talking about Crashlands [$4.99], but we chat a bit about this editorial on Wired before Mike butts in to talk about the chart-topping Flappy-like Trump Dump [Free] which is a real thing that exists. From there we discuss Super Phantom Cat [$1.99], Infinite Skater [Free] and Circa Infinity [$2.99] before taking a quick break to get a word in from this week's podcast sponsor, Captain Cowboy [$1.99]. Coming back on the other side we get into a long discussion about Twofold, Inc [$3.99], then shift gears to TV Sports Soccer [Free] (with a brief mention of Touchdown Hero [Free]) before moving on to Blocky Football [Free] and a brief rundown of some of this week's bigger news stories.

LogoThis was a fun podcast to record, as it's great when you have more awesome games that you're genuinely excited about than you even have time to talk about them. We kick things off with Punch Club [$4.99] (and this is the editorial we mentioned) then move on to Sky Chasers [Free] and its questionable monetization methods. The main course of the podcast is Crashlands [$4.99], but we also hit on Dungelot: Shattered Lands [$3.99] before shifting gears to go over a few quick news stories. Hi there, friends. It's been a while, but the RPG Reload Podcast is back. We had a few technical issues with the original 11th episode, and with the holidays upon us, we felt it was best to just save it all up for a special comeback in the new year. And here we are! As usual, I'm joined by Eric Ford, and as semi-usual, Andy Fretz joins us from B25 of TouchArcade Towers. Since we were supposed to talk about 9th Dawn [$2.99] last time, we do that here, but we also make room to talk about the original January selection, King Cashing [$1.99]. Wow, it's a double-header! To tell the truth, we don't spend as much time discussing either game as we would have preferred, but I hope you still enjoy the discussions. Before we get to the main games for the episode, we spend a long time talking about what we've been playing and our thoughts on 2015. Plus, no less than three shocking confessions from yours truly! Who says this isn't the RPG Reload Age of podcasting entertainment?..

LogoThis week we spend a hefty amount of time talking about Supercell's new Clash Royale which is currently soft launched, but we've posted about quite a bit. We're pretty confident it's going to be the next big thing. However, the big thing right now is definitely Pocket Mortys, a Pokemon-like based on an amazing TV show that we love. We also discuss Venture Kid [$0.99] a bit, along with our own weird expectations and nostalgic baggage. Oh, and of course, we hit on a couple big news stories of the week before driving it home and peacing out for the weekend.

LogoAs we do every year, on this podcast following our Game of the Year post, Jared and I discuss our various picks and the thought process that went into them. If you've found yourself going through the seven stages of grief over why we'd choose Land Sliders [Free] as our game of the year, hopefully this discussion clears up any questions you might have had. We also go through the rest of the list, so if you want to follow along with the best games post you can find links to everything we're talking about in order.

We originally intended on talking about everything in the list, but Comcast had other plans. My internet connection totally died about half way through, but, it was late in the day on New Year's Eve and we were already an hour in anyway... So we're just going to pick up where we left off next week, provided my internet connection can hold it together. Thanks for listening, it's been a great year.

LogoMerry Christmas, everyone! Due to the holidays, we didn't record a new episode this week, so we're dipping back into our archives. This one is actually courtesy of Facebook's weird new "On This Day" feature which recommended this 2009 roundup I wrote of all the cool things that happened in the world of iOS gaming. What's especially crazy about this was ngmoco's Eliminate had just recently been released, and no one realized the massive free to play trend that was going to kick off. Instead, it was just a weird new way they were selling the game.

For an additional slice of App Store history, check out our best games of 2009. Along with this article went a companion podcast we recorded with the guys from Tigerstyle who had just been awarded our first-ever Game of the Year for Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor [$1.99]. It's a fascinating discussion on the best games at the time, as even though it's technically the same iOS platform, it feels like there's been several generational leaps in the kind of games we've seen released. Oh, and of course, for the sake of comparison, here are our best games for this year. What a difference six years makes.

LogoLong-time listeners of the podcast are going to think this is a joke, but, Mike Meade actually went out and bought new Apple hardware. Not only does he have a new Apple TV, but he also picked up a brand new iPhone 6S Plus. Incredible, right? I hope his old iPhone 4 running iOS 3.0 finds a good home. Anyway, we talk a lot about the mess of discoverability that the App Store has, Mike's experiences with his new hardware, and a bunch of games including Swing Copters 2 [Free], Star Sk8r [Free], GTA: Liberty City Stories [$6.99], Badland 2 [$3.99], Impossible Journey [Free], Dashy Crashy [Free], and a few other random ones here and there.

LogoThis week Jared and I kick off the podcast by solidifying our position of being, as one negative iTunes reviewer put it, middle aged hipsters with us being totally over the ugly Christmas sweater thing. We're just too cool. We read an email, do some subsequent BS'ing, and hop into discussing some of this week's games. Fantastic Plastic Squad [Free] is dripping 80's nostalgia, but we don't have it in either of us for another gacha spin treadmill. Power Hover [$3.99] is super cool, but some camera trickery makes the game more difficult than it feels like it should be. A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build [$4.99] is a great little puzzler, while we both totally were into the incredibly beautiful vertical shooter Air Attack 2 [$0.99]. From there, I quickly mention Baseball Riot [Free] and Jared talks about Dungeon Time [$0.99].
