The TouchArcade Show - 93 - Mid-Range Birthday Burgers

Friday, March 1st, 2013

This week on the TouchArcade Show, we spend around 50 seconds talking about PS4 games before moving on to the latest, greatest, and best in iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. At the top, we dig into King Cashing 2, which is a great hybrid RPG. Later, we discuss some more stuff about Real Racing 3 before touching on traditional adventure game design and how Year Walk rolls. For the most part, we stay on subject this week, so that's something.

If you'd like to listen, smash one of the links below. You can also subscribe to us via iTunes or Xbox Music. This way is the fastest way to get us and maybe the most convenient since the downloads happen in the background. Consider it!

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

This week on The TouchArcade Show, we go deep on this week's biggest piece of news: the Sony PlayStation 4 reveal. Or, at least, we talk about its system specs, how it'll work with the iPhone and iPad, and how it stacks up with our expectations. If this isn't so interesting to you, don't worry, we do get around to iOS stuff. Year Walk leads off our games discussion, while titles like Backflip Madness and House of the Lost Mini bring up the rear. We also get to some industry news and answer your user comments and feedback.

The TouchArcade Show - 91 - Jacky Sack

Friday, February 15th, 2013

On this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show, we dig into Real Racing 3. We dedicate the entire first half of our show to it, actually. We discuss what makes it good, what makes the model feel weird, and even go Next Level on it by talking about how some of the current App Store trends have informed its core design. If that wasn't enough, we even get into some of the controversy surrounding it because that seemed like a smart idea at the time. We'll see how that goes!

Later, we do get to other games. QuestLord and HackyCat polish off our games section, while a bit of Tetris news lightens the mood. Of course, we also get to your questions and feedback.

If you'd like to listen, just bang one of the links below. Additionally, you can hit us up on iTunes or Xbox Music. Subscriptions are probably the best way to listen to us. You get the shows the second they hit the Internet without having to click a button.

The TouchArcade Show - 90 - The Future

Friday, February 8th, 2013

This week on the TouchArcade Show, we talk about ... the next generation of consoles and PCs. It's been a slow week otherwise, so we figured it'd be cool to go ahead and address some of the rumors we've been seeing and flesh out our expectations of what's to come in 2013 and 2014. If that's not your cup of tea, don't worry, we do get around to some iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone games. SEGA's arcade shooter After Burner Climax leads off that segment. Beastie Bay, Krashlander, and Roar Rampage closes it out.

We also touch on some news, surprisingly, including iPad 5 size rumors. And, lastly, we also get to your questions, comments, and feedback. Thanks for all the e-mails lately!

If you'd like to listen in, go ahead and bang one of the links below. If you're feeling froggy, you could subscribe to our podcast on iTunes or Zune Music + Video. The latter method is a good way to get us, since you'll get our stuff instantly.

The TouchArcade Show - 88 - Eating Out Of A Trashcan

Friday, January 25th, 2013

This week on the TouchArcade Show, we are joined by Special Guest Joseph Leray because Eli's European hotel Wi-Fi isn't, uh, so great. But don't worry: we manage to bring the pain without our favorite president-in-chief of a web site on the Internet. At the top, we discuss the THQ auction and what it means for the industry. Later, we dive into some of the latest and greatest iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch games including notables like Wave Trip, Traal, and Might & Magic.

In the second segment, we discuss some of this week's biggest news and get to some more user comments, questions, and feedback. Jared also reveals that he's been a naughty boy on Amazon, if you're into that sort of thing.

If you'd like to listen, just bang a link below. You can also subscribe to us on Zune and iTunes. This is our preferred method: you get the podcasts instantly and you don't even have to go through the hassle of manually downloading them.

The TouchArcade Show - 87 - Wub Wub Wub

Friday, January 18th, 2013

On this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show, we battle through discussions on farts*, beards, and Dredd in order to bring you the latest, greatest, and best in iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch gaming. At the top of our games section, the guys roast the latest Final Fantasy game while I struggle with why it's not hitting me as terrible. We also discuss Temple Run 2 and its iterative design. Later, we dive back into The Blockheads, as well as Zenonia 5. Lots of game talk this week.

After the break, we hit up some news. We talk about Minecraft, what makes it special, and how many units it sold in 2012. We also get into some racing game design theory, of all things. Weird, right?

Anyway, if you'd like to listen just bang one of the links below. You can also subscribe to us on iTunes and Zune (yes, that's still a thing, believe it or not). iTunes is the easiest way to get us since downloads are automatic, so consider a subscription.

Also, if you'd like to rate our podcast, we're still offering games in return. Just drop your TA forum user name in the written review, and we'll get in touch. It's a cool deal.

The TouchArcade Show - 86 - Crazy Volume Edition

Friday, January 11th, 2013

This week on the TouchArcade Show, we discover that I'm a total idiot. I had my microphone on the "conference" setting the entire time, meaning I was clipping basically the entire show -- or, at least, more than normal. To correct this, I had to fiddle with the gain and pitch every time I talked on the show. Please adjust your volume buttons accordingly. We tried to make it as listenable as possible, but do realize the error. Won't happen again!

In other news, we did talk about the latest, hotest, and bestest in iOS on this week's show. At the top, we talk about ShaqDown and how Hiptic managed to stay honest to Shaq's video game legacy. Later, we dive into Blockheads and what it does best. After the break, Jared tells us why Joe Danger on touch screens rocks. We also discuss next generation consoles, how CES hurts our brains, and get to your user comments, questions, and feedback.

Feels good to get back somewhat to normal. If you'd like to listen, bang one of the direct links below. Additionally, you can subscribe to our podcast and get each episode the second it hits wide on the Internet. This is the coolest way to listen to us. Also, we're still offering games in exchange for reviews. Just drop your forum name in a review, and my man Eli will hit you back. Details in the podcast.

The TouchArcade Show - 85 - Hot Snot Pics and Unboxing Vids

Friday, January 4th, 2013

This week on the TouchArcade Show we sorta expected to talk about a lot of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch games. Instead, we ended up chatting about Chuck E. Cheese's, a handful of old PC releases, and Nexus 7 unboxing videos. There's a reason for this: the iTunes Connect freeze coupled with the extended holiday break combined together to form a perfect storm of nothingness on the App Store. There just plum isn't a ton of new stuff out there worth talking about at length. Anyway, if you're into off-topic podcasts, this is definitely another one of those. Buckle up.

Next week we hope to return to the old format and get back to the stuff that a good portion of you want from the podcast. But, we've got to say, we're pretty happy with the way this one turned out. If you want a little bit of everything, we definitely have your back this week.

If you'd like to listen, go ahead and bang one of the links below. You can also subscribe to us on iTunes and Zune and get our podcasts the second they hit the Internet. A lot of folks prefer this method since the downloads come pretty fast and instant. Oh, and speaking of iTunes -- if you drop us a glowing review and throw your forum name into it, we'll hit you back with a free game. What a deal, right!?

The TouchArcade Show - 84 - Impulse Buying Cats

Friday, December 28th, 2012

On this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show, we kinda didn't talk about iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch games. Instead, we celebrate another year of our podcast in the best way possible: by talking about Warhammer, kittens, Magic: The Gathering, and Apple TV. This is probably our most off-topic podcast ever, so buckle up if you haven't hear us go off the rails before.

If you'd like to listen -- and we all know you want to -- go ahead and bang one of the links below. You can also subscribe to our podcast on iTunes and Zune. Subscribing is, maybe, the easiest way to listen to us. You get the shows instantly and don't have to bother with clicking on stuff. It's a cool deal.

The TouchArcade Show - 83 - Game of the Year Discussion 2012 Edition

Friday, December 21st, 2012

You saw our game of the year post, now listen to how we came up with the choice. This week's podcast is devoted exclusively to our game of the year debate. In great detail, we break down a bunch of games and stack them up against each other. Then, we somehow come to an agreement about which one is truly the best of the best.

How it works: before the podcast, we made categorized and listed a bunch of the coolest apps 2012 had to offer. Then, on-air, we debate and pluck select apps from those lists to put into the game of the year pot. Finally, we choose our GOTY, runner-up, and three honorable mentions.

On a macro-level, we hope this podcast gives you a better idea of how who we are informs our work as writers. This has always been a goal of this show, but this week is special since we cover so much ground so fast. If you found yourself wondering where certain games were in the GOTY listings, give this podcast a listen and you'll likely have the answers to your questions.

The TouchArcade Show - 82 - Prone to Odd Infections

Friday, December 14th, 2012

On this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show, we battle through idle chat on TVs, the upcoming consoles, and Magic: The Gathering in order to bring you the best, hottest, and the latest in iPhone and iPad. At the top of our games section, we talk about how Middle Manager of Justice has changed since we last played the game. We also touch on Karateka, the latest Metal Slug release, and card game sensation Fluxx.

Sprinkled in the middle of all that is a discussion about how next-gen consoles may give some new life to new IP across every platform. We also dive into some news, as well as a user question as the podcast comes to a close.

If you'd like to give us a listen, bang one of the links below. You can also subscribe to our podcast via iTunes and Zune. The latter is the best way to listen to us since the episodes come to your earholes instantly.

The TouchArcade Show - Bonus - Interview with Mark Jacobs

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012

This week on a bonus episode of The TouchArcade Show, we sit down with Mark Jacobs. You might know the name. Jacobs was the VP and CEO of Mythic Entertainment, and saw over the release of two popular MMOs: Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Jacobs is now trying his hand at mobile. Recently, he co-founded a brand new studio called City State Entertainment and released a new game, March on Oz [$3.99 (HD)].

March on Oz is a lane defense game set deep in the universe of the Wizard of Oz. This is a far cry from what we expected Jacobs next project to be (an MMO), but you see a lot of MMO design sensibilities being applied to his new game. For example, even though it's released, core development hasn't stopped. Feedback will influence the direction of points of design in future updates and more content is slated to hit in the near future.

We touch on Oz at several points in the show, but for the majority, we discuss the big themes and issues on mobile right now. Jacobs was releasing MUDs while some of us were in diapers. He's seen a lot, made a lot games, so he has an interesting perspective on phases like free-to-play, as well as in-app currencies and design as a whole.

The TouchArcade Show - 81 - Zombies, Zombies, and Pajama Pants

Friday, December 7th, 2012

On this week's episode of The TouchArcade Show, we battle through thoughtful discussions on pants, personal hygiene, Magic: The Gathering, and building PCs in order to bring you the latest and greatest in this week's iPhone and iPad gaming slate.

In our first segment, we chat about a surprisingly hip zombie game called Into the Dead. We follow that with deep discussions on two more zombie games: the Walking Dead: Assault and Minigore 2: Zombies. Zombies, guys -- they're a thing now. In fact, why are there even games without zombies in them anymore?

In our second segment, Jared tells us about Modern Combat 4 while Eli fills our earholes with sweet Smash Cops nectar. We also break down some news before going in hard on a few user questions, one of which deals with the upcoming winter iTunes Connect freeze.

We had a blast this week, and we hope you do, too. If you'd like to listen, just bang a link below. You can also subscribe to us on iTunes and Zune. The latter is the best way to get us in your earbuds; downloads queue up automatically and you'll hear us first.

The TouchArcade Show - 80 - "The ONLY Show on the Internet" Edition

Friday, November 30th, 2012

This week on the TouchArcade Show, we push through conversations about muscles, Jared's TV problems, Black Friday and other stupid stuff to bring you the latest, greatest, and the best in iPhone and iPad. At the top of our games section, we dive deep into Walking Dead: The Game and discuss the actual impact of your choices and how fantastic the last episode of the series ended up being. Later, we knock around Jet Set Radio a little bit before jumping into a chat about Ravensword 2.

Of course, we also get to some news in addition to your user comments, questions, and bits of feedback. We appreciate the support. Keep the e-mails rolling in, guys! Oh: and if you're a fan of our more... off-beat episodes, buckle up for this week's episode.
