GDC 2018: ‘Void Tyrant’ is an Awesome Looking Roguelike Battler Loosely Based on Blackjack

While meeting with Armor Games to check out Adventure Pals on the Nintendo Switch, they also had a handful of upcoming mobile games to talk about, and one of the most exciting ones for me personally was a game called Void Tyrant from London-based developer Quite Fresh who you may remember from the excellent Nitrome-published title Ultimate Briefcase (Free). That was a game that stood out for its incredible pixel art, and that is again a highlight of Void Tyrant. In fact, the demo is actually in an extremely early (and as you’ll see, extremely unbalanced) state but you’d be hard pressed to tell based on how darn polished the artwork is. The basic gist is that you’ll create a character each run and then battle against enemies using mechanics that are loosely based on blackjack, and you can see how all that works in our hands-on video of Void Tyrant below. You can expect this one to launch most likely in Q4 of this year.
