Holy moly I still am not caught up on playing all the great iOS games that came out these last few weeks and Stardew Valley hits the Switch tonight too! This is such an amazing time to be a gamer, we are absolutely spoiled with a flood of so much amazing content that you can't even play it all even if you tried. This week I'd definitely grab the Stranger Things game as it's free and an actual full game experience with no shenanigans. All the other games mentioned in the title are definitely also worth a look, as are the whole heap below:

The opening part of the description for Fill Cube is extremely off-putting. LOCK is such an absurdly shameless ripoff of HOOK. Not to be negative but my god.

  • nkx

Sad when nothing premium launches anymore

    • Maude St. Nubbins

Stranger Things is a premium experience that they're giving away for free. There is no IAP whatsoever.

  • Luzsec

I just pick rekt! Beside freemium games

  • Far_Out

it is weird the last few years seeing pretty much everything go freemium. hasta be that the devs figure it's their only fighting chance to see a profit to some point in time.

    • http://toucharcade.com Eli Hodapp

It's more that people demand infinite updates for eternity, and when you get 99 cents once that's real difficult to deliver versus when you have a game that's actively maintained and making money constantly.

      • Tom

Agree, funnily enough although its (rightly) complained about as a major problem on consoles/PC where games cost $49.99, I actually think paid DLC is totally acceptable for mobile games which may only have cost 0.99 - 9.99 to begin with - Developers cant just maintain a game without those updates helping to provide further income

      • Gary Gogis

And without a feature on AppStore (which seem harder to get with the new iOS 11 update) the free/buy rate drops dramatically. The hopes of making any money at all without a feature is that someone will at least try your game (because it is free) with the hopes that you have created a quality game and can get the ads or IAP to feel worth it.

    • Precious Tritium

I am seeing kind of a different trend on the app store. Games that uses to cost maybe 2.99 are now 4.99 or even 6.99. Most of the games I want are pricier, which is fine but I think it's a response to freemium as a way to make fully playable games, still make money, and avoid the IAP nonsense.

      • Maude St. Nubbins

That's because customer price sensitivity on the AppStore is completely bonkers. The thought goes like this: if a customer is willing to pay ANY money for a mobile game up-front, there is little mental difference between 99 cents and higher prices.

Knowing that premium customers are, at best, a niche audience on mobile (sad but true), the only way to make development costs back is to charge higher prices. They know interested buyers are willing to pay it, while keeping the price at 99 cents will not attract a significantly larger user base.

And let's be clear here: we're still talking about game development costs that are equal to or higher than games developed for traditional handhelds like the 3DS and Vita and sold for $30 and higher, yet the AppStore market forces demand they be F2P or sold for a fraction of the cost.

  • Sterling Archer

Heads up, Eli - word is that Stardew doesn’t launch until tomorrow, not midnight EST like everyone is hoping 😭

    • Precious Tritium

Stardew Valley is coming to IOS?!

      • http://toucharcade.com Eli Hodapp

Very first sentence of the article. 🤦🏻‍♂️

      • Precious Tritium

I always jump to the comments first. It's a holdover routine from being an AV Club commentor, before the switched to Kinja. I usually get to the article second.

That being said, this is excellent news I have been meaning to try SDV forever. Can't wait for your review.

  • Realist82

    i still waiting for Rainbowtail
    Apple must give green light....

  • Dailon Huskey

This would be a good week for someone to release a premium game with all the FTP games out this week
Next week there will probably be a few premiums looking forward to it
